Pokémon Legends: Arceus Debuts New Forms for Zorua and Zoroark

The latest trailer for Pokémon Legends: Arceus reveals new Hisui variants of the Dark-type pocket monsters Zorua and Zoroark.

The “restored” version of the recently released found footage trailer gives players a proper look at a snowy area in Sinnoh’s Hisui region. An unnamed explorer, chronicling everything through what is presumed to be a video camera, explores the chilly environment before finding a gang of Snorunts playing in the ice. Exploring further, they stumble upon a clearing where a single white-and-pink Pokémon stands in the moonlight. While speculating as to what it may be, a gigantic shadow attacks the documentarian. The fate of the explorer is unknown but the camera records clear footage of a Zorua and a Zoroark, both sporting tweaked designs, before they retreat into the forest.

Little is known about these new Hisui variants, but the Zorua featured in Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be a dual-type Normal/Ghost. It’s unknown whether Hisui Zoroark will follow suit but given its white coat and its evolution line, it’s likely to be the same type. The original forms of these creatures debuted in Pokémon Black and White as straight Dark-type pocket monsters. Zorua and Zoroark were the first Generation V Pokémon revealed to the public.

These aren’t the only Hisui variants exclusive to Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Previous trailers confirmed that multiple beloved Pokémon will receive new region forms, including Hisuian Growlithe and Braviary. The game is also set to introduce new evolutions for classic Pokémon: Stantler’s new Hisuian evolution is called Wydeer while Basculin can evolve to Basculegion. Perhaps the most intimidating new creature is Kleavor, a new evolution for Scyther. If rumors are to be believed, the game may even introduce a new version of Mewtwo

Pokémon Legends: Arceus tasks players with creating the first comprehensive Pokédex for the Sinnoh region. To do so, they’ll need to creep and crawl amongst long grass, studying wild Pokémon and even battle some of the stronger creatures. The game will feature a unique combat system, incorporating a mixture of real-time and turn-based mechanics.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus launches exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on Jan. 28. Any further Hisuian variants will likely be revealed in the coming months.
