Netflix Releases Red Notice Trailer | CBR

Netflix released a new trailer for Red Notice, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot.

The trailer sees Johnson’s FBI agent John Hartley team up with Reynolds’ Nolan Booth to help catch an art thief named Sarah Black (Gadot). Doing so proves to be a challenge, however, as Sarah is just as formidable as her pursuers. Moreover, Hartley and Booth face numerous external setbacks along the way, including Hartley getting gored by a bull in front of a packed audience (fitting, considering The Rock’s “Brahma Bull” moniker in WWE).

Written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, Red Notice was announced in 2018, and while the project originally landed at Universal Pictures and Legendary Entertainment, Netflix acquired the distribution rights the following year. Johnson was attached to Red Notice from the get-go, with Gadot joining shortly after and Reynolds coming on board in 2019. The next year, Ritu Arya and Chris Diamantopoulos also joined the cast.

In June 2021, Johnson explained that Red Notice “is the largest investment [Netflix] has made thus far in a film ~ and our relentless hard work is to ensure we make good on that investment for our Netflix partners ~ and DELIVER AN AWESOME MOVIE FOR OUR GLOBAL AUDIENCE.” Both Johnson and Gadot landed $20 million paydays for the film, and the overall budget is said to be anywhere from $160-200 million.

Like many 2020 productions, Red Notice faced setbacks stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic. Principal photography began in January but came to a standstill in March. “It’s my privilege to speak eye to eye with our entire crew to help give a little clarity and guidance, as the most important thing right now is for us to get everyone home to their concerned families,” Johnson said at the time. “Gotta protect our babies, spouses, loved ones and elderly. We’ll continue to monitor and assess this situation closely to make the best decisions for our families first and then our businesses.” Production would remain on hold until the following September, two months before officially wrapping.

Red Notice arrives on Netflix and in select theaters Nov. 5.
