Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League Starts Off In Batman Arkham Asylum

Ten years since the release of Batman Arkham Asylum, developer Rocksteady Entertainment snuck in a reference to the game during the latest trailer for the studio’s upcoming action-adventure shooter, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

In the recently released story trailer, several opening shots can be seen mirroring the beginning of Batman Arkham Asylum. Instead of Batman ripping through the Gotham City outskirts in the batmobile, Kill the Justice League‘s opening moments follow a convoy of humvees on their way to the asylum. What’s more, the Suicide Squad’s four playable characters — Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and King Shark — are all seen strapped to medical beds similar to how the Joker was detained before making his escape in the same room at the beginning of Arkham Asylum.

The Clown Prince of Crime has not yet been confirmed to be making an appearance in the upcoming game, however recently shared character posters seemed to tease the Joker’s potential inclusion. Speculation arose from words “Who’s laughing now?” being seen scratched into the barrel of Harley’s revolver, suggesting the antihero had a falling out with her villainous ex-partner or that Rocksteady will be reinterpreting the toxic relationship.

While no gameplay footage currently exists, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will blend the action-adventure and shooter genres while giving players an open-world setting based on the city of Metropolis. The game will support both single and cooperative multiplayer, letting solo players swap between the game’s four playable characters on the fly as the others remain computer-controlled. Kill the Justice League expands upon the world established in previous Arkham games, introducing iconic DC characters such as Superman, the Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Brainiac. The voice talents of Tara Strong as Harley Quinn and Debra Wilson as Amanda Waller will be featured as well.

From 2009 to 2015, developer Rocksteady was responsible for producing Batman Arkham Asylum, Arkham City and Arkham Knight. The trilogy was universally acclaimed by critics, praising the games for their fluid combat, exploration and respect for the Caped Crusader’s storied career.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League drops onto PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC at a yet-to-be-announced date in 2022.
