Jujutsu Kaisen: The Main Characters, Ranked By Maturity | CBR

The modern world of jujutsu seems to have confused strength with maturity. This confusion has allowed characters like Satoru Gojo and Principal Gakuganji to rise to the top of the jujutsu world despite their inability to act responsibly.

The strongest Jujutsu Sorcerer earned his position at the top because of the strength of his will and the combined might of his cursed techniques. In terms of maturity though, Satoru falls into the depth of immaturity to allow Megumi to rise up as the future leader of the jujutsu world.

10 Mahito Treats Human Life Like Play-Doh

Mahito Transfigures A Victim

Mahito’s age is unclear, but he is without question the most immature character in Jujutsu Kaisen. Throughout the anime’s first season, he steps outside of Kenjaku’s master plan just to toy with Yuji and the rest of humanity.

The special grade cursed spirit with the power to manipulate human flesh sees human life as nothing but a toy to be played with. His twisted and immature view of the world leads to some of the most heartbreaking scenes in the JJK anime.

9 Despite His Disagreements With The Higher Ups, Gojo Avoids Responsibility By Working As Their Soldier

Jujutsu Kaisen's Gojo With Uncovered Eyes

Satoru Gojo is proof of the fact that maturity and power are not mutually exclusive attributes. As the most powerful jujutsu sorcerer, some might assume that Gojo shoulders the most responsibility, but outside of stopping cursed spirits from attacking humanity in broad daylight, Gojo avoids the idea of responsibility altogether.

Even the little amount of responsibility he does take up as the strongest sorcerer is delegated work from the higher-ups whom Gojo regularly disrespects with his voice. Fans might love Gojo for his strength and irreverent behavior, but one day his immaturity will come back to bite him.

8 Todo’s Toxic Obsession With Women Serves As A Prime Example Of Immature Masculinity

Aoi Todo is a man who fights for the things that he loves with a fervor that few others can match. Unfortunately, the things Todo fights for are heavily steeped in outdated ideas of masculinity that many would consider immature and problematic.

Truthfully, there is nothing wrong with Todo’s idol fandom. There is something wrong though with threatening the lives of peers who don’t share his boisterous obsession with women. The moment Todo attacked  Megumi for his “boring” preferences, fans were given a chance to see immature masculinity at its finest.

7 As The Newest Member Of The Jujutsu World, Yuji Has A Lot To Learn Before Catching Up With His Peers

Yuji _ Sukuna _ I Ate It _ Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen’s protagonist has a few shining moments of maturity during the first season. Unfortunately, these moments are paired with a number of immature moments that force fans to remember that Yuji is still just a kid.

After eating Sukuna’s finger without understanding the consequences of his actions, Yuji moves to Tokyo and joins the world of jujutsu without hesitation. Mobility doesn’t directly prove immaturity, but taking drastic action without first considering the negative repercussions is not how a mature human being should act.

6 Panda’s Playful Personality Is Countered By A Strategically Brilliant Mind

Panda from Jujutsu Kaisen.

Everyone’s favorite abrupt mutated cursed corpse has a delightfully playful personality despite being a wrecking machine on the battlefield.

Panda should not be evaluated by human standards, but there is no denying that his behavior tracks pretty closely with that of an immature high school student.

5 Nobara Takes Responsibility For Her Own Life By Risking It All In Times Of Stress

Nobara vs Momo

Nobara Kugisaki is another jujutsu sorcerer with a dark past. Fans have yet to see all of what turned Nobara into the young woman they know and love today, but the future of JJK will surely shed some more light on her past.

Despite her struggles with vanity and a few superficial habits, Nobara approaches the world with a bold maturity that many of her peers lack. On multiple occasions, Nobara has shown a willingness to put her own life on the line in order to lead her allies to success. Though self-harm is never a good thing, the fact that Nobara is so willing to sacrifice for the things she cares about is impressive for someone of her age.

4 Toge Inumaki Manages His Emotions Well Enough To Keep His Voice From Destroying His Allies

The wielder of the cursed speech technique has surely seen a number of dark days. With the ability to create carnage with nothing but his voice, Toge has been forced to control his speech in a way that only the most mature human beings are able to.

Still, Megumi makes it clear just how immature Toge still is by stating that Yuta Okkatsu is the only Senpai that he respects. From the viewer’s point of view, Inumaki is a respectable Senpai, but Megumi is not wrong in assuming that Toge is immature for joining in on Gojo’s childish antics.

3 After Leaving Her Home, Maki Holds On To Her Grit & Her Smile

Maki points with sword and smirks

Maki Zenin may not be considered a main character by many, but the display she put on during the Kyoto Goodwill Exchange Event elevated her in the eyes of JJK fans. Despite being discredited and disrespected by her family for failing to inherit any cursed energy, Maki has pushed through her weakness and become one of the strongest members of the JJK cast.

If maturity is earned by leaving home and learning to take on the world alone, Maki has earned the right to be called mature. It is especially impressive that Maki has found a way to fight back against the world that shunned her and hold onto her smile along the way.

2 Nanami Explored The World From Multiple Perspectives Before Deciding On His Profession

Nanami’s experience offers him a clearer view of the world than most of the other main characters introduced in Jujutsu Kaisen‘s Season 1. When fans are first introduced to the 7:3 sorcerer, Nanami goes on a rant to explain how the human world and the world of jujutsu sorcery are both terrible.

While this is a pretty point of view, it shows that Nanami has attempted to see both sides of the world before dedicating himself to a life-long career.

1 Megumi Learned To Be Himself & Support Others While Training Under Satoru Gojo

The most reliable and mature jujutsu sorcerer is not the one who has earned the title of the strongest. In fact, Megumi learned to embrace his reliably mature personality by training under the strongest jujutsu sorcerer.

In his role as Gojo’s student, Megumi learned a very important lesson. He does not have to be a cog in the giant cursed spirit killing machine that rules over the world of jujutsu. With this in mind, Megumi managed to mature without the overbearing presence of the higher-ups trying to box him into a corner. With the freedom offered by Gojo’s tutelage, Megumi became a mature and reliable young man who knows how to show off his own strength and treat others with respect.
