If you’re looking to play Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy on PC, there’s a chance you’ll need to buy a bigger hard drive — or at least engage in some aggressive disk management.
According to the listing for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy on Steam, the game requires a massive 150 gigabytes of hard drive space on PC. It’s not clear at this time just how big the game will be on console, but previous reports have claimed it’s closer to 41GB if there’s no Day One patch, which is significantly smaller. Still, if the PC number is indeed accurate, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be one of the larger games to release on the platform over the past few years. Otherwise, the system requirements for Marvel’s Guardian of the Galaxy listed on Steam aren’t particularly onerous.
Developed by Eidos-Montréal and published by Square Enix, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy lets players take control of Peter Quill/Star-Lord. In the game, Peter and his team — consisting of Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot and Drax the Destroyer — try making some easy money shortly after a galactic war. However, things go awry and they set off a chain of events that threatens peace in the universe. This mistake then turns a number of powerful enemies — including the Universal Church of Truth — against the Guardians. In their adventures, they’ll also encounter Adam Warlock, though it’s not clear whether he’ll be a friend or foe to the group, as well as Mantis, Lady Hellbender and Cosmo the Spacedog.
Gameplay in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy sees Star-Lord leading the titular team against enemies. In addition to his normal attack abilities, Star-Lord can use a “Team Huddle” to motivate his team with music. Practically, the “Team Huddle” allows Star-Lord to boost the abilities of his compatriots. The game also will get Star-Lord to make decisions that can affect the ending of missions as well as his relationships with the Guardians.
The modern Guardians of the Galaxy were created by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning in 2008’s Annihilation: Conquest #6. While an earlier version of the team began in the late ’60s, the modern iteration is significantly more well-known. In 2014, the modern Guardians of the Galaxy debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a self-titled film. Three years later, a sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, released. Both have proven massive critical and commercial successes for Marvel Studios.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy releases on Oct. 26 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
