Star Trek alum George Takei has taken aim at Dean Cain following the latter’s negative comments regarding Jonathan Kent/Superman being confirmed as bisexual by DC Comics.
“So Dean Cain apparently is upset that the new Superboy [sic] in the comics is bisexual,” Takei, who publicly came out as gay back in 2005, tweeted on Wednesday. “I used to be upset that Dean Cain was straight but he has definitely cured me of that.”

Cain, best known for playing Clark Kent/Superman on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, was one of many to comment on Jon Kent’s big coming out moment in the upcoming Superman: Son of Kal-El #5, criticizing the move during an appearance on Fox News and calling it “bandwagoning” on DC’s part.
Cain stirred up controversy last year through another Fox News appearance, during which the actor decried “cancel culture” and claimed that, in this day and age, his Superman would not have been allowed to utter the famous catchphrase “truth, justice and the American way.” Takei joins the likes of DC writers writers Tom King and Scott Snyder, both of whom have also criticized Cain’s comments.
Regarding the decision to have Jon Kent come out within the pages of Superman: Son of Kal-El, series writer Tom Taylor said, “I’ve always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes and I’m very grateful DC and Warner Bros. share that idea. Superman’s symbol has always stood for hope, for truth and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics.” The announcement was made on Oct. 11, National Coming Out Day.
