Some anime characters embrace their messy lifestyle. Oftentimes, messy or disorganized characters are more memorable or more endearing for those simple traits, and their energy or lack of focus might make fans smile rather than scream in frustration at the disorder.
Sometimes these characters make messes themselves because they’re so full of energy and create chaos wherever they go. Mei’s energetic personality is channeled entirely into her beloved “babies,” her various inventions used to enhance U.A. High School students’ Quirks. She has any number of these projects going on all at once, and she doesn’t devote her entire attention to any one of them for very long.
Her workshop is covered with various half-built devices and in-progress experiments. Although she’s a mess with bits of dust, dirt, grime, and grease smudged all over her, she gleefully runs all over her lab tinkering with her toys.

She’s all over the place all the time, and she’s too busy with other things to bother with cleaning. She has plenty of energy to clean up these messes, with the exception of when she falls asleep in class.

A powerful woman who oversees operations at the NERV command center, Major Katsuragi from Neon Genesis Evangelion lets loose when she’s at home. Before Shinji and Asuka joined her in her apartment, she had lived a single life for some time and had become somewhat messy during that time. And for now, she likes it that way.
Once she returns from work, she won’t even wait to get to her bedroom before scattering articles of clothing around the room and popping open cans of beer that tend to accumulate around her kitchen and living room.
1 Kanbaru Suruga Has No Problem With The Stacks Of Books All Over Her Room (Monogatari Series)
Of the several surreal messes in the Monogatari series, Kanbaru’s piles of red books are probably the most notorious. The books are spread out all over her room, piling up above head level. During one of Araragi’s visits to Kanbaru’s home, they scatter these books everywhere, making the mess even worse. Given the surreal elements in this show, it’s debatable whether it’s in Kanbaru’s power to clean this mess up, or it just takes care of itself somehow. But if it’s the former, Kanbaru doesn’t seem to have a problem with the mess, blissfully enjoying her time with Araragi amidst the clutter.
