There are a number of superheroes and villains in the Marvel universe that are known for their technological inventions. Sometimes they outfit themselves in highly advanced suits of armor or managed to create a unique tool to help them navigate the skyscrapers of New York City, and there’s always a deadly doomsday device lurking somewhere.
While some fans would love to own any one of these pieces of tech from the comics, there are just as many that would prove to be hated if they existed in the real world. Whether they annoyed the community or were used inappropriately by regular people, some of Marvel’s technological inventions would definitely not be as impressive in reality.
10 Doctor Doom’s Aggression Enhancer Would Be The Worst Kind Of Crowd Control
Reed Richards’ frequent rival Doctor Doom has a number of potentially dangerous inventions under his wing, including a device known as the Aggression Enhancer that he created as a bit of a joke during the Acts of Vengeance event. The small robotic device radiated a signal that affected super-villains in the area and led them to attack the Fantastic Four with enhanced aggression.
in reality, most people would agree that there is already enough aggression in the real world, which makes the thought of a mobile armored pot-stirrer that can be thrown into tense situations frightening and far from the “joke” Doctor Doom originally intended. Or maybe it’s the perfect kind of joke for someone like Doctor Doom.
9 If Everyone Had Their Own Spider-Signal There Would Be A Lot Of Annoyed Neighbors
Most fans of Spider-Man would definitely love to have their own pair of web-shooters, which are usually regarded as one of the wall-crawler’s best inventions. However, it’s really the spider-signal that he built into his belt (and later versions of his suit’s insignia) that would prove to be incredibly annoying in reality.
If everyone had their own unique high-power belt signal there would be quite a few upset neighbors who are sick of having their living rooms flooded with a custom-made logo. Not to mention the number of accidental blinding incidents that would occur from improperly used signal flashes.
8 The Image Inducer Would Likely Be Used For Criminal Purposes In Reality
The X-Men were some of the first characters in the Marvel universe to use the image inducers to disguise their identity. X-Men like Nightcrawler or Beast could freely walk in public without persecution from the public, who have historically hated and feared what they didn’t understand.
Unfortunately, a powerful holographic disguise provided by the image inducers in the real world would more than likely be used for crimes if they were readily available. Wearing a balaclava to rob a store would be a thing of the past if you could just use an image inducer to look like Tom Hanks and really confuse people instead.
7 Noise Complaints Would Reach Another Level Thanks To Klaw’s Sonic Blaster
Ulysses Klaue is better known as Klaw, the Master of Sound due to the invention of his powerful sonic blaster, which was powered by Vibranium that he stole from Wakanda. The devastating sonic blaster even altered his own body and transformed him into a being of pure sound, though it would be hated in the real world for a number of other reasons.
Sound complaints are already an ongoing thing people in the cities deal with, whether it’s loud parties or racing motorcycles on the streets. If everyday people had access to the powerful sonic blaster there would be an increase in sound complaints at the very least, without even looking at the dangerous weapon aspect of it.
6 Reed Richards’ Coma Cannon Has Health Benefits But Could Be Very Dangerous
When Franklin Richards was born he was already tapping into his eventual cosmic abilities, though his young mind didn’t know how to control his powers. They even raged uncontrollably while he slept, sometimes bringing his nightmares to life. During one such event, Reed Richards was forced to use a device now known as the Coma Cannon to render his son unconscious.
This was obviously considered one of Mr. Fantastic’s more questionable inventions, which highlights some of the issues with the device if it was created in the real world. Aside from some of the health benefits that come from inducing comas in patients, the ability for people to be able to instantly knock out anyone they wanted to for as long as they wanted to has obvious problems.
5 Superior Iron Man’s Extremis 3.0 App Highlights The Worst Parts Of Social Media
Following the AXIS event, a number of heroes and villains were magically inverted which included Tony Stark, who became a selfish, greedy, uncaring version of himself known as the Superior Iron Man. He took the body-remapping virus known as Extremis and re-tailored it into an app that he sold to the public which allowed them to physically reinvent themselves.
This seems like an interesting idea in theory, though he also made it temporary so he could charge the general public unbelievable amounts for what basically became a social media drug. This would be a devastating piece of technology in the real world that already struggles with an addiction to social media which is often filled with negative body images and poor standards of beauty.
4 The Time Platform Would Be Just As Dangerous In Reality As It Is In The Comics
Time travel is not something that anyone should really be messing around with, which has been proven time and time again in various forms of entertainment over the years. There are a number of time travelers and machines in the Marvel universe, though one of the better-known versions is Doctor Doom’s Time Platform.
That’s usually what the heroes of the Marvel universe seek out when they need to travel through time, though multiple villains have used the Time Platform in an effort to change their own history for the better. This would cause chaos in the hands of almost anyone who attempted to jump back in time, as most theoretical physicists would likely agree.
3 The Multisect’s Ability To Explore Alternate Realities Would Be Likely Exploited
Another of Reed Richards’ powerful inventions has seen a number of different forms over the years, beginning with his portal to the Negative Zone. He then created an alternate reality viewer known as the Bridge that connected him with other Reed Richards across the multiverse. He then used his research to create the Multisect as a way to explore the multiverse.
While it would be interesting to explore our own possible multiverse to see how other versions of us live, it’s more than likely that it would be used to exploit these universes for resources or as a way to continue the seemingly ever-present cycle of war that permeates our own reality.
2 S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Helicarriers Would Be Crashing Around The World At Alarming Rates
The Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, And Logistics Division is better known to the Marvel universe as S.H.I.E.L.D. And while the meaning of the acronym has changed over the years, their popular form of aircraft personnel carriers has remained the advanced vehicle known as the Helicarrier.
While it impressed fans when it debuted in the MCU on The Avengers, the reality is that humankind still struggles with keeping some ships floating in the ocean and planes up in the air, so combining the two would likely lead to an overwhelming number of devastating crashes around the world that we’re probably better off without them in the air.
1 Ultron Is The Worst Version Of A.I. That Some People Are Already Worried About
Some readers might know of some of humanity’s actual attempts at artificial intelligence, like the always creepy Sophia robot that is learning about humans as quickly as we are learning about her. However, we have yet to achieve actual artificial intelligence which might be a good thing if the comics have shown us anything.
Hank Pym was a founder of the Avengers who managed to unlock the secrets of A.I. when he created his first version of Ultron, though the robot soon spiraled out of his control and launched his plans of human extermination that continued to expand as quickly as his own consciousness. We should be maybe using our brightest minds for something other than A.I. if Ultron is the result.
