Every month, Xbox Game Pass adds a variety of new games from all corners of the industry. From AAA hits to lesser-know indie games, the service has proven to be one of the best investments gamers can make to gain access to a huge library for a relatively low cost. Some of these games are even available on the service from the day that they launch, making it a great way to try out something new, revisit old favorites or finally play a game you previously missed.
Here are the biggest games coming to Game Pass in October 2021.
Back 4 Blood Delivers Co-Op Zombie Action in Time for Halloween
Coming to Console, Cloud and PC on October 12
The spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead, Back 4 Blood will be available on Game Pass when it launches this month. The cooperative first-person shooter features an intense narrative for up to four players as they fight through its zombie apocalypse setting as either human Cleaners or zombified Ridden. Notably, Back 4 Blood adds a card mechanic into the mix, which impacts things like health and stamina.
Beyond Light Is Perfect for Fans Preparing for Destiny 2’s Next Expansion
Coming to PC on October 12
Ahead of The Witch Queen‘s release early next year, Destiny 2‘s latest major expansion is joining Game Pass. Released in late 2020, Beyond Light is the game’s fifth expansion and sends players to Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons. In this frozen world, the Guardians must a confront a dark empire working with the Fallen Kell Eramis, who plans to use the Darkness in pursuit of revenge. It’s up to players to stop her — even if it means wielding the Darkness themselves. Beyond Light‘s addition is the perfect way for new or lapsed Destiny fans to catch up and prepare for what comes next.
The Riftbreaker Offers a New Next-Gen Indie Experience
Coming to Xbox Series X|S, Cloud and PC on October 14
Another game coming to Game Pass day one, The Riftbreaker stands out as one of the few Xbox games that won’t be releasing cross-generationally. EXOR Studios’ new game is a base-building, survival title the includes action-RPG elements where players control scientist/commando captain Ashley S. Nowak. After traveling to distant planet Galatea 37 in a Mecha-Suit, Ashley must build a base and collect sample for research while also surviving in combat against enemies. The Riftbreaker has already earned awards and been showcased alongside other promising indie games, so it’s great that Game Pass subscribers will be able to jump in from the start.
The Good Life Is a New RPG From One of the Industry’s Quirkiest Developers
Coming to Console, Cloud and PC on October 15
Another indie game launching on Game Pass this month, The Good Life is the latest game by SWERY, best known for creating the bizarre cult classic Deadly Premonition. This new game trades dark (and absurd) survival horror for the much brighter setting of Rainy Woods, where players control struggling Journalist Naomi Hayward. While investigating a different mystery in a small English town, a murder occurs, and Naomi must get to the bottom of it.
However, if that sounds too straightforward, Naomi also gains the ability to turn into a dog or cat, granting her new abilities to help with her investigation. Whether you’re a fan of Swery’s previous work or just curious about his take on a life sim (or what he calls a “Debt Repayment RPG”), Game Pass is a great place to see what The Good Life is all about.
