HBO Max Promotional Video Sends #RestoreTheSnyderVerse Trending Again

The #RestoreTheSnyderVerse campaign is once again in full swing.

#RestoreTheSnyderVerse began trending when HBO Max released a promo in which Zack Snyder’s Justice League was referred to as a “global phenomenon.”

In the summer before Justice League‘s 2017 theatrical release, Snyder stepped down from the film due to the death of his daughter. He was replaced by Avengers director Joss Whedon, who made radical changes to Snyder’s vision. However, a number of factors — including Warner Bros. refusing to push the release date and enforcing a strict two-hour runtime — resulted in a final product that was a hodgepodge of Whedon’s lighthearted humor and Snyder’s gritty aesthetic.

“The decision to leave was 100 percent mine,” Snyder said when asked if he stepped down from Justice League on his own. “I knew the fight that I was in for with them. And my family needed me, and I needed them. I was in a struggle at home, and then to go to my place of work and be in a second struggle there seemed like an outrageous thing to do to myself and my loved ones.”

After several years of fans campaigning for Warner Bros. to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, WarnerMedia announced in May 2020 that Zack Snyder’s Justice League would finally see the light of day as a four-hour HBO Max exclusive. The film premiered on the streaming platform in March 2021, but it didn’t take long for the goalposts to shift from #ReleaseTheSnyderCut to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse.

“It was cool to do the Snyder Cut of Justice League and that was fun and everything,” Snyder said in May. “But Warner Bros. still tortured me the whole time for whatever reason, they can’t help it. I don’t know why I’m such a fucking pain in their ass because I’m not trying to be, honestly.”

The goal of the new fan-driven campaign is to convince Warner Bros. to allow Snyder to complete his original vision for the DC Extended Universe. This would include two additional Justice League movies, which would see the formation of the Legion of Doom, Batman sacrificing himself to save the world and Lois Lane and Clark Kent raising Lois and Bruce Wayne’s child, who’d go on to become the next Batman.
