Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball Super remains one of the most popular anime of all time, and fans have been able to spend decades with these characters and watch them grow and mature. There is no lack of danger in Dragon Ball, but the entire universe faces erasure during the tense Tournament of Power, where universes are forced to fight in a sprawling free for all for the amusement of Gods.
Dragon Ball Super’s anime concludes with this tournament, but Dragon Ball Super’s manga has continued to turn out new content that extends far beyond the events of the competition. Some very significant changes have taken place in the manga since Universe 7 was crowned the winner of the Tournament of Power.
10 Granolah Becomes The Strongest Individual In Universe 7
Every time it seems like the characters in Dragon Ball Super have reached their limits, it turns out that there’s another new incredible transformation that’s around the corner. Goku and Vegeta have gotten quite used to being the strongest individuals in Universe 7, especially after they’ve rid the world of any threats that arose. Dragon Ball Super’s introduction of Granolah explores a fascinating idea where the character is willing to sacrifice years of his life in exchange for the ability to become the strongest individual in the universe. This achievement reveals another facet of what the Dragon Balls can accomplish.
9 Vegeta Learns Forced Spirit Fission From The Yardratians
There’s always more for a character to learn, and so it’s appreciated when Dragon Ball Super immerses individuals in training. Goku visits Planet Yardrat in Dragon Ball Z and learns Instant Transmission, but much later, Vegeta makes his own visit to the planet to also benefit from their knowledge. Vegeta wants to forge his own path so, rather than learn Instant Transmission, he opts for an ability known as Forced Spirit Fission. This power involves the redistribution of energy, and it’s actually quite powerful since it can restore life to a planet or separate a union like fusion.
8 It’s Brought Characters Like Chiaotzu & Yamcha Back Into The Spotlight
Dragon Ball has built a huge cast of lovable characters over the years, but the series has progressively prioritized its Saiyans over other characters, and many of the weaker supporting individuals have faded into the background. Moro’s assault comes with some heavy reinforcements, and all of Earth’s fighters jump into action.
Goku and Vegeta eventually handle the heavy lifting against Moro, but beforehand, there are some excellent fights against the Galactic Bandit Brigade where Chiaotzu, Tien, and Yamcha all get to step up to the plate. It gives these characters the spotlight in a way that they haven’t had in ages.
7 Goku Perfects Ultra Instinct
The Tournament of Power features some of Dragon Ball Super’s most thrilling battles, but it’s also largely remembered for marking the debut of Goku’s fancy Ultra Instinct transformation. Goku’s brief time with Ultra Instinct prolongs his survival in the Tournament of Power, but he’s far from skilled with this new ability. Goku devotes much of his training after the Tournament of Power to better understand the ways of Ultra Instinct, which does eventually culminate in him achieving Perfected Ultra Instinct and making this power a regular presence in Dragon Ball Super.
6 The Heeter Force, Rivals To The Frieza Force, Set Their Sights On Universe 7
Dragon Ball’s universe is so expansive that it’s only reasonable that there are entire races and power structures that haven’t been explored before. A considerable presence that rises forward following the Tournament of Power is the Heeter Force. This organization is business partners with Frieza, but their treatment in the arrangement is far from equal. The Heeter Force plots to take over Frieza’s army with the use of the Dragon Balls and become the dominant tyrannical force in Universe 7. The Heeter Force is already responsible for much damage and manipulation, especially when it comes to the Cerelians.
5 The Alternative To Ultra Instinct, Ultra Ego, Exists
Much of Dragon Ball has featured Goku and Vegeta playing catch up with each other whenever one of them achieves a new Super Saiyan transformation. One of the more interesting developments that Dragon Ball Super has explored after the Tournament of Power is that Goku and Vegeta have diverged in their approaches to power.
Vegeta doesn’t strive for Ultra Instinct, but he instead becomes attuned with its polar opposite, Ultra Ego, which is more fitting with Vegeta’s attitude and fighting spirit. Ultra Ego explores a new and dangerous power that could potentially even lead to corruption.
4 Planet-Eater Moro Stages A Jailbreak At Galactic Patrol HQ & Many Fugitives Remain Loose
The Galactic Patrol has typically been more of a fringe entity in the Dragon Ball universe, but they’re put front and center after Planet-Eater Moro breaks free from their capture and triggers a dangerous rebellion in the universe. The Galactic Patrol’s progress drastically gets set back thanks to the innumerable fugitives that Moro helps escape. The Galactic Bandit Brigade does a lot of damage on Earth and gets appropriately dealt with, but there are still rogue forces that are out there because of Moro’s chaotic actions. Moro’s gone, but the scales of galactic justice are still unbalanced.
3 Broly, The Legendary Super Saiyan Gets Brought Into The Canon
Dragon Ball’s Broly has always been a favorite among fans, and Dragon Ball Z’s movies even find three separate occasions to feature the Legendary Super Saiyan. Despite Broly’s prominence in movies and video games, the character wasn’t actually considered canon. Dragon Ball Super: Broly is the first event that’s set after the events of the Tournament of Power, and it specifically introduces a revised version of Broly into the canon. Broly has yet to return, but Goku leaves him on friendly terms and a reappearance seems inevitable.
2 Vegeta Can Wield Hakai & Is At The Level Of A God Of Destruction
Vegeta is one of Dragon Ball Super’s more stubborn individuals, which actually makes him the perfect student to learn under God of Destruction, Beerus. Vegeta puts in serious time with Beerus while Goku trains with Whis and he makes serious progress by the time Granolah shows up and is looking for revenge. Vegeta slowly masters the destructive power of Hakai, and Beerus even equips him with the celebratory earring that’s reserved for Gods of Destruction that can dispense Hakai. It’s another valuable skill to bring into the series.
1 Goku Learns About Bardock, Whose History Gets Changed
Dragon Ball fans have known about Bardock, father of Goku, for ages, but he’s a character who has been reserved to flashbacks and out-of-canon stories. As a result, Goku is actually ignorant of his father’s accomplishments, let alone his identity. This gets changed in a big way when Monaito reveals that Bardock actually helped save Granolah and fellow Cerelians back in the day. This changes the nature of Bardock and treats him like another benevolent Saiyan, which doesn’t mesh with previous Saiyan history. It opens up even more possibilities for what’s been previously revealed about Saiyans.
