Karate Kid Trilogy Gets 4K UHD Release | CBR

The original Karate Kid original film trilogy is crane-kicking its way to a limited edition, 4K Ultra HD box set release this December.

The box set containing the coming-of-age trilogy that preceded the massively-popular Netflix series Cobra Kai will release in 4K Ultra HD on Dec. 7. The release will allow longtime fans of the movies to revisit them, while also allowing those who discovered the franchise through Cobra Kai, to enjoy the origins of the franchise for the first time in Ultra HD.

Those who purchase the collection will receive The Karate Kid (1985), The Karate Kid Part II (1986) and The Karate Kid Part III (1989) in 4K, along with a host of extra features. Cobra Kai fans who are yet to watch the original movies will get to see the origins of the never-ending rivalry between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), while also getting to see Daniel’s mild-mannered and inspirational sensei Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) for the first time. The box set only includes the first three Karate Kid movies, excluding 1994’s The Next Karate Kid and 2010’s Karate Kid remake.

All three films will be “mastered in 4K resolution from the original camera negative, with Dolby Vision” and will be accompanied by a number of special features such as audio commentary and deleted scenes, as well as a featurette titled “Remembering The Karate Kid,” in which Macchio, Zabka and others reflect on their experience working on The Karate Kid.
