The world of Fairy Tail is full of mages with incredible powers. But just having those powers doesn’t mean they’re using them to the best they could be. Several characters in Fairy Tail have been letting their talents go to waste from the moment they were introduced.
It’s a problem, and it’s something those characters could stand to correct. Mashima could easily send several characters in his universe on a training arc where they would come back more powerful and more dangerous than ever, just from having learned how to use the powers everyone knows they have. Some of these characters have avid fanbases, and would love nothing more than to see them become more relevant in the Fairy Tail world.
10 Levy McGarden Spends More Time Studying Than Fighting
Levy is the leader of Fairy Tail’s most pointless faction, Shadow Gear. Her special ability is Solid Script, which is actually pretty awesome. It lets her create magic with words in the air that do various things based on the letters she’s written. She’s shown the ability to create different elements and even barriers with her powers, so this is one of the most versatile abilities in the series. But she’s far more interested in reading and learning about things than combat, which puts her in a dangerous spot considering the enemies Fairy Tail often finds itself up against.
9 Cana Alberona Spends Too Much Time Drinking And Coasts Off Her Natural Skill
Cana Alberona is one of the children from the current generation of Fairy Tail mages—the class that has Natsu, Erza, and Gray in it. Compared to most mages she’s excellent, but compared to that group, she’s pretty disappointing. Her magic power is Magic Cards—with her cards she can do nearly anything. But she spends most of her time getting drunk, and her relevance later on comes from being taught Fairy Glitter, one of the most powerful Fairy Tail spells. If she spent more time training, she’d be on the level of Laxus and Erza easily.
8 Lisanna Strauss Is The Least Talented Of The Strauss Siblings
Lisanna Strauss is the youngest of the Strauss siblings, and also unfortunately the weakest. She has the Take Over Magic just like her brother and sister, but unlike them, her powers stick to Animals. Mirajane claims that her ability to allow her to chain together Take Overs makes her a high-level mage, but that doesn’t mean she’s particularly dangerous.
Lisanna is skilled in her magic usage, but most of Fairy Tail’s opponents have been far above her power level. This isn’t her fault though, as she spent years trapped on a world without magic and thus fell behind her brother and sister.
7 Macao Conbolt Focuses Too Much On Being A Ladies’ Man
Macao Conbolt was chosen as the Fourth Guild Master…and he’s the first one that caused Fairy Tail not to expand as a group. Macao boasts Purple Flare magic, which is essentially the ability to generate fire from any part of his body. He’s also got Transformation Magic, which makes him one of a few mages who has two entirely different magical ability types. Despite this, Macao has never been considered a powerful mage, and he spends far too much time drinking and chasing after women.
6 Wakaba Mine Rarely Ever Fights In The Series
Wakaba Mine is like if Kuwabara couldn’t fight and started smoking. His magic ability involves Smoke magic, manipulating his own smoke to his benefit to use as either attacks or to create copies of himself. Wakaba hasn’t been in a lot of fights, so there aren’t many victories or losses to talk about, but he’s never in consideration when it comes time to deal with the heavy hitter enemies Fairy Tail has.
The best thing he’s done was keep up with Macao during the Battle of Fairy Tail, despite Macao seemingly having the more versatile magic powers on display. Wakaba spends too much time wanting to carouse about and hit on women, even though he’s already married with a kid.
5 Romeo Conbolt Has A Very Versatile Fighting Style And Should Train To Develop It
Romeo is only here because he needs to continue training more than anything else. The son of Macao Conbolt, Romeo’s powers work much like his dad’s, as he has Rainbow Fire. Each of his different colored fire techniques have different abilities, like his Blue Fire which has cold abilities. Eventually he develops Purple Fire, but there’s probably more potential in him mastering how to use his Rainbow Fire ability in the long run.
4 Yukino Agria Falls Behind Lucy As A Celestial Mage
Yukino is one of the youngest members of Sabertooth, a Celestial Spirit mage who has the ability to summon Libra and Pisces. She’s also capable of summoning multiple spirits much like Lucy can. But Lucy has been hardened by fighting with the rest of Fairy Tail so frequently.
Lucy isn’t afraid to jump right into battle and do things hand to hand, which is why she’s mastered the Fairy Dress ability. Yukino needs to master the ability as well if she’s going to help Sabertooth.
3 Millianna Needs To Train To Increase Her Weak Magic Powers
Millianna is one of the strongest members of Mermaid Heel…but that only means their guild isn’t highly ranked. Her special ability is binding magic, so she can create ways to bind her opponents with tubs that can constrict on demand. She’s also really talented with hand-to-hand combat, but not nearly enough to keep up with some of the other powerful female mages. Millianna desperately needs to come up with some offensive spells to put down opponents and actually help her teammate Kagura.
2 Warren Rocko Could Be Dangerous If He Used His Telepathy More Offensively
Everyone in Fairy Tail should really be capable of fighting at any moment, even a telepath like Warren. His abilities allow him to read his opponent’s mind, and he can actually overwhelm some opponents with the usage of telepathic noise. This is mostly just low-level stuff though, as he’s been shown to flee when a battle gets pitched. There’s no reason for this considering his abilities—he can predict his opponent’s movements. He really should train and gain more confidence.
1 Jura Neekis Doesn’t Impress As One Of The Great Wizard Saints
This is more about reputation than anything else. Jura Neekis is introduced as one of the Ten Great Wizard Saints, but he never feels all that scary. He pops onto the scene and does battle with a member of the Oracion Seis, and narrowly defeats Brain, but after that he’s not really relevant anymore.
When Jura appears again during the Grand Magic Games, it’s to get defeated by a Laxus who hasn’t fought in seven years. Later still, he battles God Serena and gets easily washed—he’s not even a second thought. He’s powerful, but he could stand to do way more if he’s going to make the title of the Ten Great Wizard Saints mean anything.
