Following his release from WWE earlier this year, former NXT superstar Bobby Fish will seemingly be making his way to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) in one week’s time — for a championship match, no less.
On tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT, Sammy Guevara defeated Miro (formerly known as Rusev) to become the new TNT Champion. Shortly after Guevara’s victory, Fish took to Twitter to challenge Guevara for the belt. “I’d like to congratulate the new TNT Champion [Sammy Guevara] and be the first to challenge him for that title,” wrote Fish, who is set to debut for Major League Wrestling (MLW) on Oct. 2. “Ready to walk through the forbidden door!”
Tonight’s Dynamite was followed by the premiere of TNT’s AEW-adjacent reality show Rhodes to the Top, starring Cody and Brandi Rhodes. During a commercial break for Rhodes to the Top, Guevara appeared on-screen to accept Fish’s challenge, setting the match for next week. In other words, it looks like the Oct. 6 edition of Dynamite will see Fish challenge Guevara for the TNT title in Fish’s AEW debut.
I’d like to congratulate the new TNT Champion @sammyguevara and be the first to challenge him for that title. Ready to walk through the forbidden door! @AEWonTNT

The 44-year-old Fish made his professional wrestling debut in 2002, having trained under Tony DeVito and Harley Race. He initially debuted for Ring of Honor (ROH) in 2004 for a brief run with the promotion, also debuting for Pro Wrestling Unplugged (PWU) in 2005. Fish first toured Japan as a member of the Pro Wrestling Noah roster in 2006, going on several more tours of Japan with Noah in the following years.
Fish re-debuted for ROH in 2012, forming the reDRagon tag team with Kyle O’Reilly, with the pair reigning as ROH World Tag Team Champions on three separate occasions. Fish is also a one-time ROH World Television Champion. As part of ROH’s working relationship with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), reDRagon made appearances for Japan’s premiere wrestling promotion between 2014 and 2016.
Fish signed with WWE in 2017, debuting for the NXT developmental brand that year. As a member of the NXT roster, Fish reunited with O’Reilly, who has also signed a developmental deal WWE. The two joined forces with Adam Cole to form The Undisputed Era, which later added a fourth member in Roderick Strong. The Undisputed Era was NXT’s dominant faction for a number of years, holding all of the promotion’s titles at once at one point in time.
Following the dissolution of The Undisputed Era, Fish was released from his WWE contract earlier this year on Aug. 6. He was one of many developmental talents to be cut from WWE’s roster on that day. Nevertheless, seeing as how WWE’s developmental wrestlers are only given 30-day non-compete clauses, as opposed to the 90-day non-compete clauses given to main-roster wrestlers, Fish should have been free to compete in other promotions, such as MLW and AEW, as of Sunday, Sept. 5.
If Fish does, in fact, turn up on AEW Dynamite to challenge Guevara next week, he will also be reuniting with former Undisputed Era teammate Adam Cole, who himself debuted for AEW at the All Out pay-per-view on Sept. 5 after letting his WWE contract expire.
