Captain America’s Infinity War Costume Is Coming to Marvel’s Avengers

Marvel’s Avengersnext hero outfit will be Captain America‘s costume from Avengers: Infinity War, granting the first Avenger his bearded, scruffy appearance sported during his time as a fugitive from the law.

The team behind the superhero beat-’em-up game took to the official Marvel’s Avengers Twitter account to announce the impending arrival of Captain America’s next hero outfit. The team shared a first look at the Star-Spangled Man’s newest costume, which draws inspiration from the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s third Avengers film, Infinity War. “He’s way past asking for forgiveness,” the team tweeted, showcasing the outfit of a weathered champion as “a leader returning to save Earth.” Players can purchase Cap’s “Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War” outfit through the in-game marketplace starting Sep. 30.

The costume showcases a well-worn combat suit, stricken with mud and faded in color. The design notably lacks Cap’s typical helmet and silver centerpiece star. In Avengers: Infinity War, Steve Rogers (as played by Chris Evans) is forced to sport the less-than-fashionable look after the events of Captain America: Civil War sent many of the Avengers into hiding. His appearance remains unkempt and grizzled as he partakes in a slew of underground Avenger operations, culminating in the climactic Battle of Wakanda.

The First Avenger’s Infinity War outfit joins a wide selection of hero outfits available to equip to the character. This summer, the Marvel’s Avengers team added the thirsty “American Dream” skin, as well as the classic costume from the first Avengers movie that popped up again in Avengers: Endgame.

Since Marvel’s Avengers launched in the summer of 2020, the teams at Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have made an effort to appeal to fans of the immensely popular Marvel films. The game has added a myriad of MCU-inspired skins over the past year, including the white suit from this year’s Black Widow, a spin on Clint Barton’s Ronin attire slated to reappear in the Disney+ Hawkeye series, and Endgame costumes for Cap, Iron Man and the Hulk. Most recently, Black Panther also received a costume based on his iconic onscreen look. All post-launch MCU suits must be purchased through the in-game marketplace, a stipulation that has drawn some backlash from a portion of the game’s fanbase.

Other post-launch content for Marvel’s Avengers includes the War For Wakanda expansion, a massive Black Panther-focused update that was released on Aug. 17. Future additions on the horizon are set to bring Spider-Man into the Avengers for the PlayStation version of the game. The wall-crawler update, which is expected to include a story and cinematics in a major Spidey-centric event, is on track to release before the end of 2021.
