Star Wars: Andor Star Confirms Wrapped Filming, Teases Familiar Faces

The upcoming Star Wars Disney+ show Andor is officially complete, according to its lead actor.

In a conversation with Deadline about his new Amazon Prime show Pan Y Circo, Diego Luna confirmed that Andor has finished shooting, corroborating a report made in August by Bespin Bulletin. Luna also revealed that a handful of Star Wars characters will appear on-screen alongside Rebel Alliance member Cassian Andor, though he didn’t specify which ones. “You’ll definitely see familiar faces,” he said. “I can tell you about this project like no other because I can’t spoil the ending if you’ve seen [Stars Wars: Rogue One] already. No matter what I say, I can’t ruin the ending.”

First introduced in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars StoryAndor will explore the life of Luna’s character prior to Andor’s encounter with Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and their deaths at the Battle of Scarif after successfully transmitting the Death Star’s battle plans to the Rebellion. Though the show suffered coronavirus (COVID-19) related delays, the Rogue One actor took pride in his production crew’s ability to finish Andor despite numerous setbacks.

“To be honest, it’s been such a blessing to do this job and to do it under these circumstances,” Luna continued. “I had the chance to work with a team that I couldn’t be more proud of and admire more. It’s a hard-core moment to be out there shooting, and we were really lucky. We’re done with the shooting now and getting it ready for audiences to see it.”

Furthermore, even though he couldn’t spoil the show’s twists, Luna described making Andor as “literally a transformation for me. It’s something that I really wanted to do and that I thought I was not going to be able to do. I’m more than happy.”

Known returning Star Wars actors for Andor include Forest Whittaker as guerrilla fighter Saw Gerrera and Genevieve O’Reilly as Rebel Alliance leader Mon Mothma. O’Reilly previously debuted as Mon Mothma in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and both actors voiced their characters in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Other cast members include Stellan Skarsgård and Robert Emms in undisclosed parts, though it’s also been rumored that Ben Mendelsohn might also appear as Orson Krennic, the Galactic Empire’s Director of Advanced Weapons Research. However, Alan Tudyk will not reprise his role as K-2SO, Andor’s reprogrammed Imperial security droid and companion from Rogue One.

Andor will premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
