The MCU‘s main stars are the Avengers, the handpicked superheroes who have the strength, courage, and conviction to defend the Earth and its people from all manner of threats, from the insidious Hydra organization to aliens such as Thanos, the Chitauri, and far more. Not just anyone can join this elite team.
If Nick Fury had the opportunity, he would recruit a few more Avengers from other franchises as well to bolster Earth’s defenses, and that includes the Mass Effect game franchise, which is home to countless heroic warriors and experts of all sorts. However, not all of them are cut out to join the Avengers. Nick Fury must choose carefully.
10 WOULD MAKE A GOOD AVENGER: Commander Shepard Has Incredible Leadership Skills
The star of Mass Effect is Commander Shepard of the Alliance Navy, and while this character’s personality and abilities are up to the player, some things are universal among all Commander Shepards. No matter what, Shepard is an experienced soldier and an exemplary leader, whether renegade or paragon.
Shepard is not only a skilled tactician and squad leader, but also a capable diplomat and negotiator, and that counts for a lot. Most of all, Shepard is known for their incredible charisma and inner fire, which inspires many people to follow them, even rogue and outlaws who don’t like following orders. Shepard is a lot like Captain America in space.
9 WOULDN’T MAKE A GOOD AVENGER: Samara’s Justicar Code Is Too Strict
It’s true that Samara the Justicar is a powerful biotic on Shepard’s team, and she also has centuries of experience in combat and space exploration. But it takes more than firepower to join the Avengers. Samara closely follows the Justicar code, and Nick Fury won’t like that.
Justicars are like brutal monk-warriors, dispensing justice according to their own code with no regard for local laws or customs. Samara will kill anyone the code views as an enemy, and that is bound to conflict often with Nick Fury’s orders or the needs of the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D.
8 WOULD MAKE A GOOD AVENGER: Garrus Is An Expert Sniper
In the eyes of his fellow Turians, Garrus Vakarian is a troublemaker and a hothead, but Commander Shepard appreciates him for what he is: a flexible, creative and proactive agent who can take on any job and find victory. Garrus makes up his own rules, and while he gets carried away at times, he usually means well.
Those are good qualities for an Avenger, and Garrus is a solid team player so long as he’s assigned to a competent leader. He also has plenty of skills, mostly in sniping, melee combat, and engineering. The Avengers could really use an expert like him to calibrate their big guns.
7 WOULDN’T MAKE A GOOD AVENGER: Armando-Owen Bailey Prefers C-Sec Work
Commander Bailey is a fine C-Sec officer, and he knows how to handle crime aboard the massive and crowded Citadel. He misses Earth, but then again, the Citadel has all kinds of marvels and people to meet, and Bailey works hard to keep that place peaceful for everyone.
Nick Fury would appreciate Bailey’s capabilities, but he’s not Avengers material. His combat skills are insufficient, and his leadership skills are better suited for police work than Avengers missions. Bailey won’t get that Avengers Initiative invite anytime soon.
6 WOULD MAKE A GOOD AVENGER: Thane Krios Is The Next Black Widow
Thane Krios is a well-trained Drell assassin, and the Hanar have been honing his mind and body since age six to be the ultimate killer and infiltrator. In fact, Thane can enter “battle sleep,” meaning his body and mind become disconnected while his body performs assassination jobs on autopilot.
During a mission, Thane can move quicker than the eye can follow, and plot the perfect course to find and assassinate his target, regardless of the target’s security measures. He’s adept at melee combat, bladed weapons, small arms, and more, and he could easily join the Avengers as the next Black Widow.
5 WOULDN’T MAKE A GOOD AVENGER: Zaeed Massani Prefers Bounty Hunter Work
The Mass Effect galaxy can be a dangerous place, and many vicious criminals get their way in the darkest corners of the universe. Zaeed Massani is used to that fact, and he isn’t at all squeamish about crime, torture, and killing. He has seen and done a bit of everything.
Zaeed is skilled at hunting bounties and capturing people for a client, but that’s not what Nick Fury is looking for, and Zaeed’s methods can be extreme at times. At most, S.H.I.E.L.D. would hire him as a contract killer to dispatch Hydra operatives or find wanted terrorists around the globe.
4 WOULD MAKE A GOOD AVENGER: EDI Is A Friendly Ultron
Tony Stark built Ultron to be a defensive net for Earth, but that advanced program went rogue in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Fortunately, the Avengers will get a new robot friend and tech expert: EDI the rogue AI.
EDI went rogue for all the right reasons, unlike Ultron, and this synthetic being can hack into practically any computer and speak to any machine, and it — or she — can support any ally in a firefight, too. And when it comes to cyberwarfare, EDI is downright unbeatable.
3 WOULDN’T MAKE A GOOD AVENGER: Nihlus Kryik Makes His Own Rules
Nihlus Kryik is a Spectre, an elite agent of the Council who operates alone to defend the Council’s interests and preserve peace in the galaxy. Like Garrus, he’s a bit of a rogue who makes his own rules, but he’s not a team player, which sets them apart.
Garrus is charismatic and cooperative, but Nihlus, by his own admission, works best on his own, and he can be uncooperative and brutal at times. Nick Fury would respect Nihlus’ abilities, but wouldn’t consider recruiting him to the Avengers.
2 WOULD MAKE A GOOD AVENGER: Mordin Solus Is A Genius Researcher
Mordin Solus is no ordinary Salarian. He is an expert researcher and scientist who can devise ingenious solutions to any problem with scant resources, and he actually enjoys the challenge. That said, he will always make full use of a well-stocked lab if he has access to one.
Mordin is more than a scientist, though. He is also a capable fighter who can use tech powers and small arms in combat, and he’ll even take on angry Krogan without fear. Mordin is also fairly cooperative with his squadmates and isn’t too proud to follow orders.
1 WOULDN’T MAKE A GOOD AVENGER: Tali Specializes In The Geth
In the Mass Effect universe, the Quarian Tali’Zorah is an expert on the Geth, and that expertise is highly relevant for the Migrant Fleet’s interests and Shepard’s many missions across the galaxy. Many people need Tali for her knowledge on the Geth, but this wouldn’t help the Avengers very much.
Tali would start from scratch if she had to research Ultron or other robots in the MCU, and that’s not good. There’s also the issue of her health — Tali runs the constant risk of a debilitating or even deadly infection if her suit gets ruptured in battle. Nick Fury doesn’t feel like gambling with Tali’s life, so he’ll leave her out of the Avengers.
