Fans are almost always on board for a patented superhero team-up, especially when it brings two DC heroes together who might not usually work together. Sometimes these fan-favorite team-ups aren’t restricted to just the superheroes, as a number of DC villains have teamed up over the years as well.
Of course, an even rarer but no less exciting team-up also exists in the DC universe, as superheroes are sometimes forced to work with their biggest enemies to take on a common threat. These tense hero/villain team-ups are always fascinating to look at. Fans always want to know why they had to join forces and how well they worked together.
10 Hal Jordan And Sinestro Worked Together To Stop The Sinestro Corps
When Hal Jordan was first chosen as Earth’s Green Lantern, he began his training with one of the Green Lantern Corps’ most respected members, Sinestro. However, Sinestro’s true nature was soon revealed and he quickly became one of Hal Jordan’s most dangerous enemies who created his own Sinestro Corps built on the power of fear to oppose the GLC.
The New 52 reboot featured Sinestro’s return as a Green Lantern when he became a target of his own Corps, and the first person he enlisted to help him was none other than Hal Jordan. The two fought together as Green Lanterns against the Sinestro Corps, though Sinestro eventually returned to his villainous roots and reformed a new Corps of Yellow Lanterns.
9 Batman And The Joker Teamed Up To Take Down The Batman Who Laughs
DC’s horrifying Dark Multiverse was introduced in the Dark Nights: Metal event as a character known as The Batman Who Laughs appeared alongside his evil Dark Knights to invade the mainstream DC universe. The Batman Who Laughs was a twisted version of Bruce Wayne that had been corrupted by his Joker’s death toxin.
He initially seemed unstoppable, until Batman teamed up with the last person on the planet he would normally work with, The Joker. Batman and The Joker were able to effectively counter The Batman Who Laughs in a violent battle that helped save Earth from falling into the Dark Multiverse forever.
8 Superman And Lex Luthor Worked Together As Members Of The Justice League
The Man of Steel has almost always been opposed by the brilliant but evil mind of Lex Luthor since he first made his public debut as Superman in Metropolis. However, Lex Luthor seemed ready to turn over a new leaf after the Forever Evil event saw him leading a team of villains against the evil Justice League from Earth-3 known as the Crime Syndicate.
Luthor was then invited onto the Justice League where he worked alongside Superman. When the New 52’s Superman died, Luthor rebranded himself as Metropolis’s new Superman. He then worked alongside the returned Post-Crisis Superman to protect Metropolis before he ultimately returned to his evil ways.
7 The Fatal Five Formed After Working With The Legion Of Super-Heroes
DC’s future is protected by the Legion of Super-Heroes, a team composed of super-powered heroes from each one of the United Planets. They are often opposed by the powerful team of villains known as the Fatal Five which includes Tharok, Emerald Empress, Mano, The Persuader, and Validus.
However, this dangerous villainous team didn’t exist until the Legion of Super-Heroes recruited them individually to help in their fight against the deadly galactic threat known as the Sun-Eater. The villains worked so well together alongside the Legion that they decided to form their own group and became an ongoing thorn in the Legion’s side as the Fatal Five.
6 Heroes And Villains Joined Forces Against The Anti-Monitor During The Crisis
During 1985’s Crisis on Infinite Earths, DC heroes from across the multiverse gathered together to stop the threat of the Anti-Monitor, who had already destroyed a number of alternate realities. Lex Luthor, Brainiac, and other villains united themselves in an attempt to take over their respective Earths while the heroes were occupied.
However, they soon realized that there would be nothing left for them if the Anti-Monitor was successful, so they allied with the heroes during the final battles of the Crisis. While the heroes took the fight to the Anti-Monitor, the villains led the charge to the past against Krona on Oa. While they failed in their mission, they still ultimately helped save the new merged reality.
5 Chronos Teamed Up With The Atom To Stop Aliens During The Invasion Event
DC’s Invasion! event saw the formation of an alien alliance that planned to take over Earth in order to stop the increasing appearance of metahumans. The Atom was one of the first heroes to launch an attack against the alien alliance’s Australian base after he was contacted by his long-time enemy Chronos.
The two formed an uneasy alliance after Chronos learned of the aliens’ plans to imprison Earth’s metahumans. However, once they completed their mission, Chronos left a warning on a dead Thanagarian warrior that informed The Atom that their truce was over and they became enemies once again.
4 Superboy Worked With King Shark And The Suicide Squad While In Hawaii
After his time in Metropolis during the Reign of the Supermen storyline, Superboy relocated to Hawaii where he quickly became known as the “hero of Honolulu.” There he met a special agent named Sam Makoa and fought with the powerful King Shark, who shared a deadly history with Makoa.
Superboy would later join with his frequent enemy King Shark in a short-lived partnership with the Suicide Squad against a high-tech criminal organization known as the Silicon Dragons. King Shark appeared to have died during the mission, though he would return later to become one of Superboy’s arch-enemies.
3 Nightwing Once Joined Deathstroke As His Criminal Partner Named Renegade
Deathstroke the Terminator first appeared as an enemy of the Teen Titans, though he developed an ongoing rivalry with Dick Grayson/Nightwing over the years. However, during Nightwing‘s “Renegade” storyline, the hero took on a new name and costumed identity when he went undercover as a bad guy, which eventually led Deathstroke to him.
The Terminator requested that Renegade train his daughter, Rose Wilson/Ravager to prove his new allegiance. Renegade even faced off with a number of his former heroic allies while working with Deathstroke, though he was ultimately betrayed and returned to his identity of Nightwing when his city was destroyed during the Infinite Crisis event.
2 The Rogues Worked With The Flash To Help Stop Gorilla Grodd’s Ape Invasion
Barry Allen has always had a unique relationship with the criminals of Central City known as the Rogues, which led to an understanding between the speedster and his villains. The Rogues’ usual refusal to kill people led to The Flash’s occasional leeway when dealing with the criminal group.
However, they were also citizens of Central City, so when Gorilla Grodd attempted to invade the city with an army of apes from Gorilla City, the Rogues teamed up with The Flash to defend their home and stop Grodd’s attempts to steal the Speed Force.
1 Wonder Woman And Cheetah Teamed Up To Stop Urzkartaga And His Bouda
The relationship between Wonder Woman and her arch-enemy the Cheetah has changed over the years, with the New 52 reboot introducing a new version of the character. Wonder Woman was originally close friends with Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva before she was kidnapped by an ancient plant god named Urzkartaga and cursed into the Cheetah form.
Wonder Woman teamed up with her former friend to help free her from the curse of Urzkartaga while fighting against his army of werehyenas known as the Bouda. Minerva was freed from her curse thanks to Wonder Woman’s involvement, forever changing their relationship as enemies.
