A new clip from the upcoming Venom: Let There Be Carnage shows a face-off between Eddie Brock and Cletus Kasady, with Venom’s iconic antagonist finding a way under Eddie’s skin.
The clip sees Eddie meeting with an incarcerated Cletus, the host of symbiote Carnage, who personally requested the interview. Eddie agrees to meet with Cletus in the hope of getting him to reveal the locations of some of his victims. “Anything you wanna unburden yourself with before this… happens?” he asks.
“I wish for you to see out your days alone, as you always have been,” Cletus replies. “You are a cancer to everyone who ever loved you Eddie. Deceived your trusting fiancee… and no wonder daddy could never look at you again, after you killed his wife, your mother, just by being born.” Cletus’s zinger provokes Venom to lash at him through the bars of the prison cell.
A second clip explores Venom’s volatile composure when Eddie is summoned to the prison where Cletus is being held by Detective Mulligan, played by Stephen Graham. Dedicated fans of Venom should be familiar with the name since it’s that of the host of Toxin, a symbiote spawned by Carnage. Whether Toxin will actually appear in the film has yet to be confirmed.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage was originally scheduled for a fall release in 2020. However, Sony Pictures had to repeatedly push the film back due to the COVID-19 pandemic, first to June 25, 2021, then to Sept. 17, Sept. 24 and then to Oct. 15. Finally, the studio announced the premiere would be moved up by two weeks, with the release date now set for Oct. 1. This last shift was reportedly tied to the success of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings at the box office.
Tom Hardy reprises his role as Eddie Brock/Venom, and he is joined by Woody Harrelson in the role of Cletus Kasady/Carnage. Let There Be Carnage sees Michelle Williams return as Anne Weying, Reid Scot as Dan Lewis, and Peggy Lu as Mrs. Chen. Other than Harris and Graham, the sequel includes additional newcomers Sean Delaney and Larry Olubamiwo in undisclosed roles.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage opens Oct. 1.
