Jon Favreau’s epic space western The Mandalorian has firmly established itself as one of TV’s finest series since its debut in 2019. And though it exists within the well-developed fictional Star Wars universe and features multiple classic characters, the series has introduced fans to fantastic newcomers— some of which have stolen the hearts of viewers with just a couple of appearances in Disney’s hit show.
From loveable rogues to villains with a serious change of heart, Star Wars has long been famous for its compelling characters, and The Mandalorian has added a selection that any fan can be grateful for.
10 Frog Lady Is Star Wars At Its Most Weird & Wonderful
Perhaps the strangest addition in terms of significant characters in The Mandalorian, Frog Lady may have little to say for herself and rely almost totally on the help of Din Djarin, yet viewers can’t help but feel for the unique creature whose design is reminiscent of many classic Star Wars life forms, as she’s just doing what she can to protect her young.
The fact those same unborn amphibians also provide hilarious moments as food for Grogu make Frog Lady all the more endearing, and unless you’re feeling rather heartless, it made for fun viewing watching Mando do what he could to keep her safe.
9 Sasha Banks Made It Look Easy As Koska Reeves
From the wrestling ring to Mandalore, WWE star Sasha Banks— whose real name is Mercedes Varnado— brought the character of Koska Reeves to life with brilliantly brutal physicality and quick-fire charisma.
A member of Bo-Katan’s Nite Owls, the Mandalorian warrior lets her actions speak far louder than her words, though when she does have something to say, it often hits as hard as her punches do. Never afraid to risk her life whether saving Grogu or swallowing a tentacle, fans were left wanting to see more of The Boss in the Star Wars universe.
8 There’s A New Marshal In Town, And His Name Is Cobb Vanth
Season 2’s debut episode offered up a huge treat for Deadwood fans by bringing the former Sheriff Seth Bullock into TV’s greatest space western. Timothy Olyphant made quite the impression as he strutted toward The Mandalorian decked out in the iconic and unmistakable armor of Boba Fett.
Olyphant’s typically charismatic portrayal of Cobb Vanth made the character an instant hit with fans, and as a self-appointed Marshal, the actor cements himself as one of TV’s all-time great peacekeepers.
7 Kuiil’s Wisdom Makes Him A Fascinating Father Figure
Nick Nolte’s grizzled Ugnaught stands out as one of The Mandalorian‘s most intriguing and wise creatures. Small in stature but big in heart, Kuiil regularly goes out of his way to help the titular hero and the cute but powerful force-user under his care.
Kuiil’s “I have spoken” line holds a place alongside “This is the way” as fan-favorite pieces of dialogue, and they both serve as excellent examples of the sharp writing throughout Jon Favreau’s series.
6 IG-11 Adds To The Star Wars Collection Of Loveable Droids
He may have assured Din Djarin and viewers that upon his death there would be no reason to be sad as he was never really alive, IG-11’s heroic sacrifice hit even the most cold-hearted of audience members right in the feels.
With an Emmy-nominated performance from the uber-talented Taika Waititi and an expertly developed character arc, IG-11 put himself firmly on the list of Star Wars’ greatest droids the moment he put Baby Yoda and The Mandalorian before himself and saved the day.
5 Fans Were Pleasantly Surprised To See More Of Fennec Shand
The first Star Wars villain to be portrayed by an Asian actress, Ming-Na Wen’s cunning assassin is adored by fans for her enduring nature and deceptive trickery, and her return in season 2’s Chapter 14 episode was likely met with enthusiastic roars of approval from most viewers.
Inspired by the exotic fennec fox, Fennec Shand is predicted to become one of the galaxy’s best characters with her part in the upcoming The Book of Boba Fett series, set to premiere in December 2021.
4 An Acting Legend Makes Greef Karga One Of The Mandalorian’s Best Characters
The Mandalorian is packed with recognizable Hollywood talent, but few can boast careers as prolific or iconic as that of the legendary Carl Weathers. Famous for his roles in Predator and the Rocky franchise, Weathers brought a legitimacy that The Mandalorian may not have needed, though certainly benefitted from.
Greef Karga is yet another character with a fantastic arc thanks to some well-timed changes of heart, a leader of the Bounty Hunter’s Guild, Weathers’ character has proven himself one of Din Djarin’s most valuable allies.
3 Migs Mayfield Is More Than Just Bill Burr Brilliance
Migs Mayfield being portrayed by the always hilarious comedian Bill Burr certainly gets the character off to a great start when it comes to likability, even if his beginnings saw him frequently shows his colors as a former Imperial Soldier and double-cross the show’s hero.
Mayfield eventually became a valuable ally to Pedro Pascal’s hero, and his attempts to make up for his past have gone a long way in endearing Bill Burr’s comedic character to Mandalorian fans.
2 The Mandalorian Himself Was Always Destined For Greatness, Yet He Somehow Exceeded It
The Beskar-clad bounty hunter himself, Din Djarin is of course the driving force behind the hit TV series, and his protect-at-all-costs attitude towards The Child makes him impossible to dislike, his initially sketchy moral code aside.
The man behind the mask is largely to thank. Pedro Pascal’s performance has drawn tremendous praise from fans, and with some inspiration from Clint Eastwood’s Man with No Name, has played a huge part in helping the show exceed even the most optimistic of expectations. He is The Mandalorian, after all.
1 The Child, Baby Yoda, Or Grogu — He’s The King Of The Cute No Matter What He’s Called
Going from a cute baby Yoda to one of the faces of the franchise. Grogu may be on his way to becoming a Jedi Master, but he’s already a master of moving merchandise. The adorable creature can be seen on everything from t-shirts to kitchenware and is currently one of the most popular characters to come out of the entire galaxy of Star Wars.
He can seemingly do no wrong; even his fondness for egg-snatching comes across as mischievous rather than mortifying. The Child may not be The Mandalorian‘s most heroic figure, but he’s certainly the show’s most loveable.
