Classic DnD Adventures Find New Life Through Fifth Edition Conversion

Goodman Games has published Original Adventures Reincarnated #6: Temple of Elemental Evil, the sixth release in its series of Dungeons & Dragons reprints, as the company continues its collaboration with Wizards of the Coast to re-publish classic adventures adapted for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition.

Announcing the partnership at Gary Con in 2017, Goodman Games said it planned to release a series of hardcover collector’s editions reprinting classic Dungeons & Dragons adventures and adapting them for Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition rules. The series, titled Original Adventures Reincarnated has housed the release of a number of Dungeons & Dragons reprints since 2018, including Into the Borderlands, The Isle of Dread, Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, The Lost City and Castle Amber. The latest edition, The Temple of Elemental Evil, is available on Goodman Games’ online store for $99.99. The release was announced on the company’s website and Twitter account earlier this week.

The adventure was originally published in 1985 by TSR, Inc. and written by Gary Gygax, co-creator of the Dungeons & Dragons game, and Frank Mentzer as an expansion to the adventure’s first module from 1979, The Village of Hommlet.

The original release of The Temple of Elemental Evil has long been considered a classic by Dungeons & Dragons and fantasy role-playing fans alike, even being ranked as the 4th greatest Dungeons & Dragons adventure of all time by Dungeon magazine in 2014. Fans will remember the adventure for debuting many of the series’ classic villains and monsters, including the Demon Lord Zuggtmoy. Since its 1985 release, this edition has received a number of reprints, including a novel version by Wizards of the Coast in 2001.

In the announcement on its website, Goodman Games boasts the following improvements to the 5th Edition version: “The two-volume set is an homage to the origins of an adventure that began decades ago with T1: The Village of Hommlet and T1-4: The Temple of Elemental Evil. Herein you will find high-quality scans from multiple printings of the original first edition adventure modules, plus commentary by gaming legends. Full fifth edition conversions of both adventure books are included, as well as brand new adventure material that adds new wilderness encounters, expands the Village of Nulb, fully details the evil Elemental Nodes, and provides fifth edition updates of many original magic items, monsters, and spells.”

Goodman Games’ complete Original Adventures Reincarnated series can be found and purchased on the company’s website.
