The Wheel of Time Enlists Empire Director for Season 2 | CBR

Amazon has added Sanaa Hamri, formerly of the Fox show Empire, as executive producer and director for the second half of Season 2 in its upcoming series The Wheel of Time.

Hamri, who is Moroccan-born, was in control of many of the artistic aspects of Empire during her time there between 2015-20. She held the same dual role as executive producer and director while overseeing everything from production design to hair and wardrobe. She also has credits as a director for shows like Desperate Housewives, Hemlock Grove and Shameless, and has directed multiple feature films such as Just Wright. Hamri got her start in music videos for the likes of Mariah Carey.

The move shows confidence in The Wheel of Time, as the first episode has yet to arrive on Amazon. Based on the series of fantasy novels created by Robert Jordan and finished by Brandon Sanderson, the series will follow the Aes Sedai known as Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) as she encounters a group of five young men and women from the village of Emond’s Field and their lives are all changed irrevocably. The teaser trailer hints at elements from several of the early novels being used, which showrunner Rafe Judkins has confirmed.

The show will premiere on Nov. 19, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
