James Gunn Teases The Suicide Squad Actors Appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

The Suicide Squad director James Gunn has addressed the likelihood of actors from the DC film crossing over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

When asked about the potential for a shared talent pool between the two films, Gunn did not reveal any future plans or even any appearances that audiences might expect to see in upcoming projects. The director simply responded, “That is a distinct possibility.”

Bringing actors from one comic book franchise to another is exactly what Gunn did when putting together The Suicide Squad‘s ensemble cast, with Yondu actor Michael Rooker portraying Savant and his brother Sean Gunn making a brief cameo appearance as Calendar Man as well as providing the motion capture reference for Weasel.

Some have noted the inherent similarities between Gunn’s Marvel and DC work, such as the recurring idea of the dysfunctional surrogate family coming together. Some even argue that Guardians of the Galaxy helped pave the way for both Marvel and DC on film.

Both franchises currently have streaming projects on the way from Gunn, with Peacemaker set to premiere on HBO Max early next year and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special scheduled to drop on Disney+ in the holiday season of 2022. These are not the only superhero streaming projects James Gunn has pitched to the studios. He is also known to have pitched a Yondu-centric show focused on the Ravagers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is due for release on May 5 2023. Cameras are currently set to role on the film before the end of 2021. It was recently reported that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had begun screen testing after Gunn wrote on social media, “I’m actually doing screen tests today for Guardians 3… and I kept saying ‘One more time,’ and I’m like, these people don’t know me… They don’t know that it means 1000 more times.”

While the famed director has not disclosed many details about the upcoming MCU film, he has confirmed that it will be the last of the Guardians of the Galaxy series of films. However, he did assure fans that the door is open for further collaborations between him and Marvel Studios.
