Lucifer Boss Details a Celestial Season 5 Deleted Scene | CBR

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for Lucifer Season 6, now streaming on Netflix.

Lucifer‘s Season 6 finally clued Ella into the truth: Celestials are real and exist and have been working around and with her for the past several years. Luci-fans have wondered why Ella wasn’t clued into the reveal sooner for some time and what led Lucifer‘s writers to keep this secret from her for so long. Season 6, however, showed that Ella hasn’t completely been in the dark about Celestials. On her own, she has been privately conducting her own investigation about the heavenly and hellish worlds and how they were connected to those closest to her.

In a forthcoming interview with Lucifer showrunner Joe Henderson (Shadecraft), CBR learned that Ella Lopez almost learned of Celestials’ existence in Season 5’s finale.

When Henderson was asked about Ella’s heartbreaking realization — not that Celestials exist, but that her friends have been withholding the truth from her for some time — he shared that it was almost Charlie, Amenadiel’s son, who revealed the truth of Celestials to Ella.

“Initially, in Season 5’s finale, we were going to end with Ella finding out via Charlie’s wings [that Celestials exist],” Henderson shared. “We were gonna have a scene where one of her last moments was finding out the truth. She’s babysitting Charlie. They all come home. She’s like, ‘Guys, there’s something wrong.’ And they’re like, ‘What?’ And she’s holding up Charlie and he’s got wings. And they’re like, ‘Ella, we can explain this!’ And she’s like, ‘No, I think I’ve always sort of known. I get it. I know.'”

Unlike previous reveals to the mortals in Lucifer’s world, Ella’s discovery led her to not have a crisis of faith but one of friendship. When Henderson was asked why the writers decided to put Ella into this position, he shared, “We liked the idea that she was sitting on this huge realization, but she didn’t tell anyone because she thought everyone else knew. Like the idea of, ‘If you guys had looped me in, we could have gotten ahead of all of this. But no! You didn’t!’ To me, that was an interesting path to walk on with Ella. She is everyone’s best friend, no matter what. When you give out that much positivity, and you perceive that it has not been returned… There was a level of betrayal that felt like such an interesting story.”

All six seasons of Lucifer are streaming now on Netflix.
