WandaVision star and Vision actor Paul Bettany revealed how his own grief helped him connect to the Disney+ limited series.
While speaking to GQ, Bettany discussed how WandaVision‘s exploration of grief through Scarlet Witch appealed to him and helped him click with it. Bettany himself is no stranger to the grief that comes with losing a loved one, having lost a younger brother when he was 16.
“What a clever thing to do with a superhero-genre show and to have this woman going through unspeakable suffering in grief, who also happens to have powers and can create her own world,” Bettany said. “And then, suddenly, the reality hits and [she realizes] ‘I need to let go.’ I really did connect to it.” Prior to this, Bettany discussed Vision’s death at the end of the series, saying he did not “want to call it the end yet.”
As of now, Bettany is currently not contracted to appear in any more Marvel projects. However, his costar and fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran Elizabeth Olsen will reprise her role as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which Olsen recently stated would not make sense without WandaVision. Olsen also stated earlier this year that the series will not be getting more seasons.
WandaVision is currently streaming on Disney+.
