WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley offered scathing commentary directed squarely at the promotion’s creative team, decrying the way they’ve handled younger talent.
The retired wrestler responsible for Mankind, Dude Love and Cactus Jack posted a video to Facebook, titled “WWE — WE’VE GOT A PROBLEM.” Getting straight to the point, Foley tears into the creative management of the largest pro wrestling promotion in the world, hailing All Elite Wrestling (AEW) as the superior choice for up-and-coming wrestlers seeking contracts.
“WWE is no longer the place for talent to aspire to,” lamented Foley. “Part of it is because AEW is doing a great job of attracting great talent, proven talent, building other talent, creating storylines.” Founded in 2019 by CEO Tony Khan, AEW has quickly become the second-largest pro wrestling promotion in the world. The company, funded in part by Khan’s billionaire father, Shahid, has been accumulating talents such as Bryan Danielson at a generous pace as WWE seeks to do the same.
Addressing WWE directly, Foley stated, “You guys did wonders with me back in the day, but that was a different time.” The revered superstar identified Karrion Kross as a WWE talent whose image suffered at the hands of its creatives, saying, “I think younger talent sees the way that developmental characters are cut or left by the wayside or, in the case of Karrion Kross, greatly watered down.” Foley concluded his sentiment with the adage, “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.”
