Star Wars’ Mark Hamill Gets Over 350K Likes – For Tweeting His Own Name

Mark Hamill is one of the most beloved celebrities on the internet due not only to his central position in both the Star Wars franchise as Luke Skywalker and in the Batman: The Animated Series franchise as the voice of the Joker, but also because he is an overall delightful personality on social media, who routinely makes fans days with his charming interactions online. One fan thought that Hamill was so beloved that he could garner thousands of likes simply by tweeting his own name. Hamill took the challenge and the results were hilarious.

Twitter user LozzaBean12 wrote to Hamill, “@HamillHimself you could just tweet ‘Mark Hamill’ and you’d get thousands of likes.” Hamill did so and in less than seven hours, his simple tweet of “Mark Hamill” racked up over 350,000 likes on Twitter!

As soon as he made the tweet, he racked up thousands of likes in just a matter of minutes and he was trending on Twitter before too long and the world of online celebrity quickly paid attention and other actors tried to get on board the Hamill train, as it were.

Thirtysomething star Ken Olin tweeted, “Will that work for anyone? Here goes: Mark Hamill.” That tweet also has racked up over 17,000 likes in the six hours after he posted (although it helped that Hamill himself retweeted it and added, “Your chance to prove it will work for @kenolin1 & EVERYONE! #TestingTwitter).

Longtime Star Trek star George Takei tweeted, “Mark Hamill. And now we wait.” and his tweet has shot up past 21,000 likes in six hours.

The whole social media trending situation has led to a number of followers taking the time to just share an appreciation for Hamill, with people posting classic photos (including a popular tweet with shots of Hamill with his original Star Wars co-stars Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and their director, George Lucas and another one of Hamill with just the late Fisher), photos of themselves with Hamill or pieces of artwork from Star Wars artists like Francesco Francavilla.

The Muppet History Twitter account added to the “Mark Hamill” posts, only along with vintage photo of Hamill with Rowlf, and that has soured past 6,000 likes itself.
