The villainous Loki stole the hearts of Marvel Cinematic Universe fans ever since his first appearance in Thor. Ten years later, even after his tragic death in Avengers: Infinity War, he still remains a very popular figure.
The Disney+ series Loki has brought back the character with a refreshing new take. But for all his qualities, Loki doesn’t have an abundance of allies. Many of the people he fights side by side with are situational allies at best and enemies at worst.
10 The Jotnar Are His Accomplices In His Scheme Against Thor But Their Alliance Is A Lie
Knowing his brother Thor is unsuited for the Asgardian throne, Loki helps several reckless Jotnar sneak into the Weapons Vault. He’s aware the Destroyer will kill them before they get the chance to reach the Casket of Ancient Winters, but he has no problem with that. The scheme backfires when he learns he is Jotun himself.
To prove his worth, Loki arranges for his birth father Laufey to come to Asgard and assassinate the unconscious Odin. He conveniently kills Laufey before the frost giant king can go through with the deed and sets the Bifrost to attack Jotunheim. All his plans are for nothing, as Odin still rejects him.
9 The Asgardians Are Unreliable Allies But They Do Occasionally Fight On the Same Side
Raised as the Asgardian second prince, Loki often fights side by side with Asgardians. Because of his mischievous nature, he’s viewed with distrust. Even when he is crowned as the rightful king of Asgard, Sif and the Warrior Three disobey his commands and Heimdall tries to kill him.
However, in Marvel’s new series, What If…?, Loki and the Asgardians band together to avenge Thor’s death. They don’t even seem to question Loki’s decision to take over Earth. It’s really just circumstances that place them at odds. While sharing the same motivation as Loki, the Asgardians can indeed serve as useful allies.
8 Valkyrie Is A Fellow Revenger Even If They Have A Rocky Relationship
Loki meets Valkryie on Sakaar. To say the two have a rocky relationship would be an understatement. Valkyrie doesn’t trust the Asgardians, and Loki doesn’t help his case when he invades her mind using his magic. But in the end, the battle against Hela takes precedence. It seems unlikely that Valkryie ever really liked Loki, but they did join forces against the bigger threat.
7 The Hulk Starts Out As A Terrifying Opponent But Becomes An Ally
One of the most memorable scenes in Avengers is Loki’s confrontation with the rampaging Hulk. Loki unwisely insults Bruce Banner’s vicious alter-ego, only to be grabbed and thrown around like a ragdoll. The incident sticks with him and his first instinct when he sees the Hulk again on Sakaar is the desire to get off the planet.
Even so, throughout the Revengers’ quest to defeat Hela, the two become allies. Bruce is leery of Loki’s murderous impulses and tendency to backstab people, but they fight side by side anyway. And when Thanos comes for the Asgardians, Loki utters Iron Man’s iconic statement, as a show of trust. We have a Hulk.
6 Kid Loki Assists Him In His Fight Against Alioth
After the 2012 version of Loki makes his escape during the Avengers’ time heist, he is captured by the Time Variance Authority. Through the intervention of Agent Mobius, he originally escapes, but other variants aren’t so lucky.
Kid Loki is a variant of Loki who kills Thor as a child and is pruned by the TVA as a result. He is the king of the Void, and while not many of his powers are shown in the series, he does support Variant Loki. Deceptively strong despite his young appearance, he offers Loki his own weapon Laevateinn, which Loki uses throughout the rest of his journey.
5 Classic Loki Sacrifices Himself To Give Him And Sylvie A Chance In Their Quest
Classic Loki steals the show in the Disney+ series. His outfit–loyal to his original look from the comics–may seem a little dated, but Classic Loki makes it work. The most epic scene in the whole show is the moment Classic Loki sacrifices himself to distract Alioth, giving Sylvie and Loki a chance to defeat the horrible monster. His magic also shows the true potential Loki has as a character, potential he hasn’t yet truly reached.
4 Mobius Becomes His Unlikely Friend When He’s Captured By The TVA
Upon his arrival at the TVA, Variant Loki is sentenced to be pruned but is recruited by Mobius M. Mobius to find an even deadlier version of himself. Mobius is occasionally harsh with Loki but is also willing to give him a chance, which is more than most people have done. He’s genuinely upset when Loki betrays him for Sylvie, but when he realizes the truth about the TVA, he does his best to assist him.
He gets pruned for his trouble, but that turns out to be a good thing, as he is the one who saves Sylvie from Alioth. Unfortunately, Loki’s confrontation with He Who Remains leads Loki to a version of Mobius who doesn’t know him at all. It’s unclear if the original Mobius still exists or not.
3 Thor Is Still His Beloved Brother Although They Don’t Get Along
Loki’s relationship with Thor has been essential to every version of the characters, be they from the MCU, the TV show, or the comics. In the MCU, Loki genuinely loves his brother. Thor feels the same, although he doesn’t always show it properly. Thor’s grief over Loki’s loss is what pushes him to stand against Thanos for a second time, and his anger makes him aim for the chest instead of the head.
Similarly, Loki has many times shown he cares for his brother, despite his damaged soul and the dark path he finds himself on. He even cries when he stabs Thor in Avengers and agrees to give Thanos the Tesseract to save his brother. While Loki may have felt resentful of Thor for overshadowing him so completely, the brotherly bond between them still remains.
2 Sylvie Is Both An Alternate Version Of Himself And His Love Interest
The female version of Loki, Sylvie is on a quest to destroy the TVA for having ruined her life. Originally dismissive of Loki, she teams up with him through an unexpected sequence of events that lands them in the middle of an apocalyptic incident. Throughout the series, their relationship grows closer, to the point where they even kiss in the end.
Unfortunately, the confrontation with He Who Remains forces them to be opponents once again. After Sylvie kills her nemesis, the multiverse fractures. It’s unknown if Loki and Sylvie will ever see each other again, or if their separation is permanent.
1 Frigga Is His Estranged Mother Who Supports Him During His Childhood Years
Loki’s adoptive mother Frigga is among the few people who genuinely tried to offer him support while he was growing up. She does lie to him regarding his origins, and the disastrous deception tears apart their relationship. But she trusts him and she tries to give him a chance by making him king after Thor’s fall from grace.
That may not have been the best call, as Loki doesn’t make the best decisions when unstable or angry. Still, she makes an effort. She’s also the one who teaches him much of his magic, and she makes a big difference in that field, as shown by the gap between Loki’s powers and Sylvie’s. Tragically, the last thing he tells her before her death is that she isn’t his mother.
