Marvel: 10 Times That Doctor Doom Actually Won | CBR

Whether it’s due to heroic plot armor, or the hubris that comes with being a super villain, many bad guys get a lot of wins in their history. Doctor Doom, however, has spent more time than most on the winning team. It doesn’t always last long, but his victories are numerous and impressive.

World changing shifts of power, galaxy shaking battles, or smaller, personal victories—Doctor Doom has seen them all. Whether those wins are done with the intent of doing good, or bad, this master of magic and science will continue to be successful, despite the heroes around him.

10 The Birth Of Valeria Richards

Doom holds the hand of Valeria Richards as she greets her mother. He informs Reed Richards that in Latveria he requires children to get a good night's slieep.

While it might not be one of his flashier successes, the fact that the youngest Richards child was saved because of Doctor Doom’s intervention is a huge victory for him over Reed Richards. The first time Valeria was born, Reed and most of the scientists in the world were unable to save her.

The second time she was born, with the aid of Franklin’s reality warping powers, Victor Von Doom was the only hope the Invisible Woman had to save her child. His combination of science and magic saved Valeria when her father’s science could not.

9 Doctor Doom Became Iron Man

Many heroes did not believe that Doctor Doom meant well when he took up the mantle of Iron Man. After Tony Stark’s death, Doom stepped up and vowed to do better by himself and humanity as the new Infamous Iron Man.

He did the work and eventually convinced many of his former foes that he really could, with support, be a better man. His heroics were enough to convince even Ben Grimm that he could be a hero that was worthy of the armor.

8 Doctor Doom Took Over Latveria

Doom Latveria Loved

Doom’s early life in Latveria was traumatic to say the least. The deaths of his mother and father at the hands of the elite drove Victor to seek revenge against them and provide a safe country for his people.

He gave his people the tools and know-how to depose their rulers and put him in their place. Doom’s rule over Latveria has been repeatedly shown to provide free education, medical treatment, and assistance to other Roma groups in nearby countries. He is the picture of a benevolent dictator.

7 Doctor Doom Battled An Eviler Version Of Himself

When Doom and Iron Man were sent to a future version of Camelot by Merlin, they came face to face with a much worse version of Doctor Doom. In a strange twist, it is not Tony Stark that saves the day and takes down the villain—it’s Doom himself.

While the future Doctor Doom realizes that this battle this is probably a major time loop, his present-day version triumphs and keeps the future Camelot safe from his future dictatorship.

6 Avengers: Emperor Doom Proves Him Right

In David Micheline and Bob Hall’s Avengers: Emperor DoomDoctor Doom won and took over the world by using Purple Man’s hypnotic abilities. World peace is achieved, but Doom finds his life to be less about challenge and power and more about administration.

When a few Avengers are freed from his control by Wonder Man—who is immune to Purple Man’s influence—Doom takes the opportunity to step down and regain some of the thrill in his existence. He isn’t defeated by the Avengers so much as he is freed by them.

5 Doctor Doom Saved His Mother

So much of Victor Von Doom’s story is tied to his attempts to save the soul of his mother, Cynthia, from Mephisto. With the help of Dr. Strange, he eventually gets the chance to bargain for his mother’s soul.

Doctor Doom pulled off a bait and switch on Mephisto that helped his mother win her freedom, which is incredibly impressive. While Dr. Strange seemed to be a victim in all this, he was in on the ruse.

4 Doctor Doom Stared Down The Purple Man

Doctor Doom's will is too strong for Purple Man

It’s been stated over and over again that Zebadiah Killgrave’s powers are nearly impossible to resist. While Jessica Jones has an immunity to him, very few others have been able to stand in the face of his demands. One of those rare few, however, is Doctor Doom.

Without the aid of his armor, magic, or any other technology, he faced the full brunt of Killgrave’s power in the Avengers: Emperor Doom. As the Purple Man demanded that Doom become his slave and end his own life, Doom stood firm. Through sheer force of will, he defeated Killgrave.

3 Doctor Doom Turned The World On Its Axis And Back Again

When the Red Skull resided in the mind of Charles Xavier, the world’s best magic users looked for a solution. Doctor Doom and the Scarlet Witch casted a spell meant that turned the Red Skull from evil to good, but the spell worked too well and effected all the heroes and villains present on Genosha.

This was a huge victory against the Red Skull and his plans to enslave the world, despite the fallout. Doctor Doom eventually set things right again and turned the Avengers and the Inhumans back into the force for good that they are meant to be.

2 Doctor Doom One-Punched Thanos

As 2015’s Secret Wars began, the power of the Beyonders flowed through Doctor Doom during a battle against Thanos. With one line, Doctor Doom ended the Mad Titan by pulling his spine and skull from his body in one quick move.

This was an incredible power move. With Thanos being front and center in pop culture as Marvel’s major villain, Doom’s casual destruction of him spoke volumes about the level of power he possessed.

1 Doctor Doom Saved The Multiverse

When the situation was dire and only Earth 616 and the Ultimate universe remained, things went sideways in the biggest way possible. Harnessing the power of the Beyonders, Doom pulled together remnants of the universes that were left, forming Battleworld under his rule and saving what he could of the multiverse.

The heroes of Earth 616 only had a world because of Doom’s ability to salvage bits and pieces of the multiverse. Mr. Fantastic and the rest of the Illuminati could not have rebuilt without Doom’s Battleworld as a foundation.
