Star Trek: Picard Casts Annie Wersching As the New Borg Queen

Star Trek: Picard has found its Borg Queen in Marvel’s Runaways alum Annie Wersching.

According to Deadline, Wersching will play the Borg Queen in a recurring capacity in Picard‘s upcoming second season. In addition to her main role as Julia Brasher in the first season of Bosch, Wersching is known for portraying Leslie Dean — mother of main character Karolina Dean — in all three seasons of the aforementioned Runaways.

Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard is certainly no stranger to the Borg Queen. The character served as the main antagonist of the 1996 film Star Trek: First Contact, in which she was played by Alice Krige. The Borg Queen later appeared in episodes of the television series Star Trek: Voyager, with Susanna Thompson taking over the role.

The Borg Queen isn’t the only classic Star Trek character making a comeback in Picard Season 2, with John de Lancie set to reprise his role as Q. In addition to the aforementioned Stewart, actors Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Jeri Ryan, Orla Brady and Brent Spiner are all expected to return from Season 1.

Picard‘s 10-episode first season premiered in early 2020 on CBS All Access, which has since been rebranded as Paramount+. Season 2 will be 10 episodes long as well. It does not currently have a premiere date, though is slated to hit Paramount+ sometime in 2022. A third season is also expected.
