Marvel: The Biggest Consequences From Secret Wars | CBR

Secret Wars was one of the biggest stories of Marvel’s 2010s era. A re-imagining of the original Secret Wars storyline, it featured a world where Dr. Doom had attained godlike power thanks to the Beyonders and created a world of his own made up of the remaining universes after the Beyonders had begun wiping all of them out.

Of course, things eventually returned to normal but it’s never that simple. There had to be some changes to the universe when everything was said and done. Some of them were a big deal only for a few stories, while some changes have remained important to the overall storyline of Marvel up until the present day.

9 Miles Morales Came To Earth Prime

Amazing Spider-Man meets Ultimate Spider-Man in Spider-Men #1-2

Miles Morales is one of Marvel’s most popular characters—evidenced by him not only getting his own film but his own game as well. But before Secret Wars, there was one major problem: he was trapped in the Ultimate Universe. After several years, the Ultimate Universe’s relevance was fading, and Marvel was getting prepared to sunset their alternate universe project. How would they continue telling stories about Miles, then? Well, after Miles fed Molecule Man, he was kind enough to transplant Miles and his entire life over to the main Marvel Universe.

8 The Fantastic Four Left Earth

The Fantastic Four are the glue of the Marvel Universe, and the entire reason the Silver Age took off in popularity. Much of what makes up the Marvel Universe comes from their early comic books, so it was all the more surprising when Marvel took them off the board entirely. For several years, Marvel chose not to publish Fantastic Four books, shelving the characters while the heroes went on to re-create the multiverse with Molecule Man’s powers. Franklin used his own powers to come up with new multiverses which were then built by Molecule Man, while the Fantastic Four went out into space to explore and catalog all these new locations.

7 Wakanda Goes Into Space

At the end of Secret Wars, T’Challa and Dr. Doom become locked in a battle for the fate of all existence. T’Challa has control of the Infinity Gauntlet while Doom had the powers of the Beyonder. Eventually, Doom was forced to battle Reed Richards on equal grounds and his defeat led to the return of the Marvel Universe.

Inspired by his adventure, T’Challa decided that it was time for humanity to explore the stars, and for this journey to begin with Wakanda. This would eventually result in Wakanda having its own empire in the stars.

6 Iron Man Went Back To Normal

The Invincible Iron Man

One of the big plot holes in Secret Wars was what eventually happened to Iron Man. During the Axis storyline, Tony Stark was a hero who had his personality inverted, which made him into the Superior Iron Man for a time. It’s this Iron Man who runs into Captain America and battles him during Time Runs Out, the time right before Secret Wars happens. After the Marvel Universe is completely reset, Stark returns to his usual self. It’s never explained, he simply goes back to normal and everyone goes along with it.

5 Dr. Doom Became Good

Dr. Doom’s entire goal during Secret Wars was to take what was left of existence and preserve it as best he could. There were some obvious flaws to this plan though, as Doom refused to allow Reed Richards to exist and he seemed to largely preserve some of the worst Marvel Earths. After Reed Richards defeated him in combat, Doom was left back in his home country, completely healed from the trauma that happened when he originally started wearing his face mask. For a time, Dr. Doom operated as the Infamous Iron Man, working with the Avengers and trying to do good after having seen the power of godhood and not having it fix his problems.

4 A New Avengers Team Was Formed

Whenever a major event happens, a new Avengers team has to be formed. This time around, the team was made up of a mix of classic Marvel heroes like Iron Man and Vision, Sam Wilson as Captain America and Thor, and younger teens like Spider-Man, Kamala Khan, and Sam Alexander. This group was forced to operate with lower-level tech thanks to Stark having lost quite a bit of his fortune. The Avengers tower was gone, and they had very little monetary support from others, simply having to operate as the Avengers to protect the Earth. This was a major change from the massive team that existed in the run-up to Secret Wars.

3 The Formation Of ISO-8

In The Ultimates, Blue Marvel discovered something fundamental about reality had been changed in the aftermath of Secret Wars. He discovered something known as Neutronium, an element that couldn’t exist in their universe before.

He’d tried to harvest it, but it couldn’t become coherent in their universe. In the aftermath of Secret Wars, it became completely capable of existing, and more powerful than it was before. The material it creates, isometry-8, was capable of altering existence itself.

2 The Marvel Universe Was Completely Remade

The Marvel Universe Was Remade

Though everything was completely reset with Secret Wars, that doesn’t mean nothing had ever happened. For all intents and purposes, the universe was completely destroyed. Instead of having the seventh iteration of creation, the Secret Wars had led to the creation of the eighth iteration. Over time, the Ultimates would meet beings that came from the iterations existing before their own, even inducting Galactus of the Sixth Cosmos into their ranks. Their major enemy was the First Firmament, which created all of existence and fell because of the actions taken in the Celestial War.

1 Namor Was Killed By The Squadron Supreme

The actions of the Illuminati in the time prior to Secret Wars were mostly forgotten about, thanks to everyone managing to reset the multiverse. But not everyone was able to get away with it scot-free. Namor was a little too eager to wipe out other planets to save his own, and other heroes from other Earths had memories that lasted long enough to try and get their revenge. The Squadron Supreme came up with a plan to hunt down the King of the Seven Seas, ending his life once and for all. The only reason he came back at all was due to time shenanigans involving Dr. Spectrum and Hyperion.
