There is no doubt many fans dream about a world with superheroes, but many people don’t consider what it is truly like to live in those cities that they protect (or at least try to protect). Their personal property is trashed and their insurance rates are sky high, and that doesn’t even consider the constant danger to their very lives.
The cities are destroyed, the people are terrorized, and every other week there is a new villain who is out to seek vengeance on the citizens and their beloved hero. These cities are most definitely hostile places and are completely unaffordable to live in. Thankfully, these are fictional cities and there is no fear of a laughing fish attack striking anytime soon.
5 Metropolis Isn’t All Superman Saves And Sunny Days
Metropolis isn’t normally thought of as a negative city. Most readers think about Metropolis being the bright and sunny city where everything is always going great. After all, Superman is there to make miraculous saves and make sure all is going well in the City of Tomorrow.
But when people take a moment to think about it, Metropolis is extremely dangerous. All the most powerful intergalactic villains attack Superman first, so they end up attacking Metropolis first. Lex Luthor is constantly running schemes in the city and as much as he wants to be, Superman cannot be everywhere at once. Even take the movie, Man of Steel, as it shows the true destruction that could descend upon the city if someone really goes toe-to-toe with Superman.
4 Coast City Was Fully Annihilated
Hal Jordan does his best to keep his home city of Coast City safe and keep up with his galactic duties. But despite his best efforts, Coast City is not a safe place. The main example of this is when the whole city was destroyed and every resident was incinerated.
Cyborg Superman enlisted the villainous Mongul to help in the destruction. They dropped bombs all across the city and ended the lives of more than seven million people. Hal Jordan has made a lot of enemies across the galaxy and any of them would be more than happy to strike a blow to his heart by targeting his city.
3 Gotham City Is Undoubtedly The Worst City Ever
Gotham City is a disaster and it makes no sense why people still live there. The city is over run with criminals and Batman isn’t capable of stopping them all, no matter how hard he tries or how much he tells himself that he can. The city has been taken over by villains such as Bane and Riddler, has been condemned by the US government, and was even once removed as part of the country. It was racked by an earthquake and overrun with a deadly virus to boot.
It has been blown up, subjugated to gas attacks, and currently is being taken over by a totalitarian para-military organization. While Batman tries his hardest, some citizens blame him for the state of the city. Before he came along there was still a lot of organized crime, such as the Falcone family. But with the emergence of Batman came the rise of the super villains and the further fall of Gotham City.
2 Kahndaq Is A Hideout For Criminals
Kahndaq is the country that is ruled by Black Adam, and that is not the worst part of it. This country has a messy history of different people taking the country by force which means the citizens suffer, going all the way back to 1600 B.C when the country was attacked and burned to the ground by a super villain of that age. This attack killed Black Adam’s family and set him down his vicious path.
In modern times it was heavily destroyed by Spectre during the storyline Day of Vengeance. While the citizens tend to worship Black Adam, it doesn’t make the way he rules any better, often with an iron fist and utilizing ancient laws. The worst part is his public executions every Wednesday which Black Adam personally carries out.
1 Central City Is Overrun with Rogues
The Flash can speed his way all over Central City but that doesn’t stop the constant danger that threatens its citizens. Without counting any run of the mill criminals there are of course The Rogues, the premier group of super villains in Central City. Lead by Captain Cold, this group commits some of the biggest crimes in the city and is constantly trying to foil and kill the Flash.
After them there are all the speedster villains that ravage the city. Reverse-Flash, Dr. Zoom, and Godspeed all have no problem terrorizing the city in order to kill The Flash and reach their goals. Finally there all the speed force events that rip the city apart. From speed force storms to time anomalies the city is constantly ripped apart by super natural forces, and its citizens are just forced to endure it.
