Obi-Wan Kenobi: Apparent Concept Art Unmasks Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader

Apparent concept art from Disney+’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series showcases Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader before he became the mechanized Sith Lord.

In an image obtained by the Star Wars News Net, Darth Vader is seen in the early stage of his rebuilding process after losing multiple limbs and suffering intense burns in his fight with Obi-Wan at the end of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

The second image spotlights a bacta tank, a cylinder that can heal major injuries by having the injured individual submerged in bacta. An inclusion of such a tank would track with the Star Wars timeline, as Darth Vader was briefly seen coming out of one during a scene in Rogue One: A Star Wars StoryUnlike the image of Vader, which is official concept art, the bacta tank photo is a rendering of one that was spotted on the set of the series. (Also spotted on set: Titans prop maker Andrew Speranza.)

Christensen’s involvement in the series was confirmed during the Disney Investor Day 2020 presentation by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, “rematch” between the Dark Lord of the Sith and his former Jedi Master. However, rumors of his return had been circulating since the summer of 2020. Other confirmed stars for the series include Maya Erskine, Moses Ingram, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie. Joel Edgerton will also reprise his role as Owen Lars from the prequel trilogy.
