A fresh teaser for WWE 2K22, the upcoming WWE pro wrestling video game published by 2K, just landed to spread the news that the hotly-anticipated game will be out in March 2022.
Using the tagline, “It Hits Different,” the trailer was posted online, boasting the game’s high-definition graphics in revealing close-ups and exciting action shots of in-ring fighting. With a rowdy, rocking soundtrack and fast-paced editing, the clip rouses viewers with the promise of a new entry into the game series which experienced a lapse this year.
Receiving some flak from fans over the series’ last installment, WWE and 2K did not produce a 2021 version of their popular progression of WWE 2K games. Released in Oct. 2019, WWE 2K20 was criticized for a number of issues with its gameplay. Plans for a WWE 2K21 were scrapped due to development problems as well as the disappointing reception of its predecessor, and 2K instead put out a spinoff of the series called WWE 2K Battlegrounds in Sept. 2020.
Garnering mixed reviews itself, the arcade-style Battlegrounds is described as less realistic than the regular entries in the series which, until 2K20, were favored for their realism and user-friendliness. With its intriguing tagline and the further promises of “new controls, stunning graphics, [and a] redesigned engine,” WWE 2K22 is poised to bring fans of the game series back into the fold.
WWE 2K22 is set for release in March 2022.
