Qi’ra was one of the more well-received additions that Solo: A Star Wars Story brought to the Star Wars universe. Since her introduction, fans have been campaigning for Emilia Clarke’s character to receive a spinoff movie or Disney+ show. While a live-action return has yet to happen, Qi’ra is confirmed to return in the upcoming Crimson Reign comic series.
Considering the series was just announced, not a lot is known about it at this time. However, some details have been confirmed, as well as some other confirmations that can be made based on what is already known.
8 The Series Will Focus On Qi’ra In Control Of The Crimson Dawn
When fans last saw Qi’ra on screen, she was working for the Crimson Dawn under Darth Maul’s control. The current War of the Bounty Hunters series has confirmed that Qi’ra has since taken control of the Crimson Dawn herself. The series has shifted the focus to Qi’ra, giving her multiple moments to shine, including holding her own in a duel with Darth Vader.
However, Boba Fett and the other bounty hunters are the true focus of the current series. When Crimson Reign releases, it will likely answer fans’ questions about how she came into power and where she has been until now.
7 It Will Be Set Between Episode V And VI
Like War of the Bounty Hunters, Crimson Reign will be set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The timing indicates that there won’t be a major time jump between the two comic series and that Crimson Reign will likely pick up right where War of the Bounty Hunters leaves off.
Fans will have to wait longer to see if Qi’ra and the Crimson Dawn survive long enough to make it to the post-Empire era in which The Mandalorian takes place.
6 Charles Soule Will Be Writing The Series
With his work on War of the Bounty Hunters so far, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Charles Soule will be writing Crimson Reign as well. Depending on how fans feel about Soule’s work, this could be either bad or welcome news. Soule has been a writer on many of the biggest Star Wars comics, including Darth Vader and the main Star Wars series.
However, some fans have been put off by how much War of the Bounty Hunters has complicated the time that Boba Fett was in possession of Han Solo frozen in carbonite. Regardless of how fans feel, it is clear that Soule will continue to be a significant contributor to Star Wars canon going forward.
5 It Is A Limited Series Releasing In November
Fans won’t have to wait very long to check out Crimson Reign, as it is confirmed to release on November 6th, just one month after War of the Bounty Hunters concludes. As with War of the Bounty Hunters, Crimson Reign is a 5 issue limited event series. While an ongoing series focusing on the Crimson Dawn could prove interesting, a limited series gives writers a chance to tell a more focused story without dragging things out too long.
Even with the limited nature of the series, it looks like Qi’ra and the Crimson Dawn will be major players in the galaxy from this point on.
4 It Is The Second Part Of A Planned Trilogy
When Marvel first announced War of the Bounty Hunters, it appeared that it would be a single limited series. Now, however, it is clear that the series is going to lead directly into Crimson Reign.
Charles Soule has since confirmed that Crimson Reign is only the middle part of a planned trilogy of stories. With Qi’ra appearing in War of the Bounty Hunters and now being the focus of Crimson Reign, it stands to reason that she will at least be a part of the third series, if not the main character again.
3 Darth Maul Is Unlikely To Appear
While Darth Maul was the only known previous leader of the Crimson Dawn, it is unlikely he will factor into the story, considering the time period that Crimson Reign is set. Star Wars Rebels revealed that Darth Maul was finally killed by Obi-Wan before the events of A New Hope, leaving the chances of Maul appearing rather slim.
Still, there is always the chance that Darth Maul can appear in a flashback or as a holo-recording. With multiple Disney Star Wars projects creating so many connections between all eras, it seems that nothing is off the table.
2 Other Fan Favorites Will Be Involved
Though fans shouldn’t expect to see Darth Maul, other fan favorites are confirmed to be making an appearance. Cover art for Crimson Regin has suggested that Darth Vader will be factored in the story in a big way, with Vader appearing on all the art released so far.
In addition, Emperor Palpatine has been shown next to Darth Vader looming over Qi’ra in the background, indicating he will be making an appearance as well. Other characters shown include Luke, Leia, and fan-favorite Doctor Aphra. Perhaps most interesting is that Soule has confirmed the Knights of Ren will be making an appearance.
1 This Is Just The Beginning For Qi’ra
Fans were understandably excited to see Qi’ra in action again, and now the excitement is even higher knowing Crimson Reign will focus on her. Though tempering expectations is always best, Soule has hinted that fans will have a lot more of Qi’ra to look forward to in the future. While most fans would prefer a Disney+ series starring Emilia Clarke, there are plenty of other places Qi’ra can make an appearance outside of the comics. With The Bad Batch moving close to the time Solo takes place, Qi’ra appearing under the employ of Maul is always a possibility.
In addition, if Qi’ra and the Crimson Dawn are confirmed to be active after Return of the Jedi, she could always make an appearance in any number of upcoming shows, such as The Book of Boba Fett.
