One of the creepiest villains from The Suicide Squad weaseled his way into a beloved Dr. Seuss children’s story thanks to one fan’s creative photo editing, and while the results are bizarre, the post has since gone viral.
A Twitter user by the name of Kegatron posted a series of images from the 2003 film adaptation of The Cat in the Hat, with a few choice modifications. In lieu of the eponymous anthropomorphic cat, portrayed by Mike Myers, the fan cast The Suicide Squad‘s Weasel as the movie’s new protagonist. The results might’ve ruined some childhoods, but they resonated with an audience. The crossover tweet quickly garnered over 150,000 likes, prompting two more edits from the fan.
The fan’s photo edits worked wonders, perfectly inserting the bloodthirsty creature known as Weasel into the adaptation of Dr. Seuss’s book, originally released in 1957. In The Suicide Squad, the R-rated DCEU film directed by James Gunn about a team of hyperviolent supervillains, Sean Gunn’s character Weasel has a reputation for having a taste for human flesh. His presence alongside the children in The Cat in the Hat makes for a drastic, disturbing twist on the scenes.
In 2003, critics panned The Cat in the Hat upon its release, giving it a staggeringly low 9% aggregate score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film has since gained a fair measure of notoriety through internet memes and doctored photos, with the addition of Weasel only continuing the momentum of the trend.
The Suicide Squad is currently in theaters and available to stream on HBO Max. Despite the film’s critical success, The Suicide Squad ultimately failed to meet its box office expectations and was overtaken by Free Guy by its second weekend.
