FXX released a Season 12 preview of Archer that shows off the eponymous secret agent’s upgraded weapon.
Following his coma, Sterling Archer has been reliant on the use of a cane, which he eventually upgraded into a tactical weapon. As seen in the new Season 12 clip, the cane now functions as a pistol, as well. He’s even able to use it to tase a massive crocodile, along with numerous other water-bound creatures.
“Archer is back in a big way this season, with viewership up as the Emmy Award-winning spy series returns to its roots and begins to plot a 12th season next year,” FX President of Original Programming Nick Grad said in October 2020 when the show was renewed for Season 12. “Our thanks to Adam Reed, Matt Thompson, Casey Willis and the entire team at Floyd County Productions for keeping Archer as fun as ever and true to form. Together with its unbelievable voice cast, Archer is set to give fans another great season.”
Season 12 will see Archer and his team facing off against the International Intelligence Agency (IIA). However, with the IIA scooping up all the spy contracts, Archer and the Agency will be forced to fight for scraps.
Archer Season 11 saw the series receive a significant boost in ratings, with 32% more viewers tuning in compared to Season 10. However, not all fans were pleased with the direction the show took. CBR’s own review of Season 11 declared, “Archer and his entire supporting cast became the players in a noir-style detective story, a pulpy adventure serial, and a far-future space adventure. Sometimes the characters closely resembled their previous incarnations, but not always. It gave Reed and his collaborators the creative freedom to essentially create entire new shows while holding onto Archer’s talented voice cast and devoted fan base.”
Returning for Season 12 are H. Jon Benjamin, Aisha Tyler, Judy Greer, Chris Parnell, Amber Nash, Adam Reed and Lucky Yates, as well as the late Jessica Walter, who recorded her lines for the new season before her passing.
Archer Season 12 premieres Wednesday, Aug. 25 at 10 p.m. on FXX with two new episodes, which will be available to stream the next day via FX on Hulu.
