WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 1, Episode 16, “Kamino Lost,” streaming now on Disney+.
With Season 1 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch come and gone, fans are already theorizing what’s next for Clone Force 99. However, in this instance, the best way to see what’s ahead might be by looking backwards. Season 1 offered some cool storylines, backstories and cameos, but it also left a lot of questions unanswered.
Providing answers to these questions is paramount for Season 2, so theorizing answers is probably the best place to start when predicting what’s coming when the new season hits Disney+ in 2022. With that said, here’s a breakdown of all of the unanswered questions from Season 1 of The Bad Batch and some theories for how they could be answered in Season 2.
Why Can’t Crosshair See The Empire Is Done With Him?
The entirety of Season 1 seemed to be building to a redemption story for Crosshair, but the final arc of the show brought that hope to a screeching halt. “Kamino Lost” revealed that Crosshair had his inhibitor chip removed “a long time ago,” so his unflinching loyalty to the Empire is actually of his own volition. It was a surprise to the rest of Clone Force 99 as they all realized that Crosshair simply wants something different than they do. While the rest of the Bad Batch wants the autonomy to do what’s right, Crosshair wants to feel needed for his military acumen. The problem, though, is that the Empire has moved on from clones, and Crosshair cannot seem to understand that he is longer welcome after the season finale. So, the issue at hand is what Crosshair will do if (and more likely when) he finds out that Admiral Rampart doesn’t want him back.
What Does The Empire Have Planned For Nala Se?
Admiral Rampart is clearly done with Kamino – he just blew the place to kingdom come – but apparently, he’s not done with clones. “Return to Kamino” showed him reporting to Tarkin that Chief Nala Se was in Imperial custody, and the “Kamino Lost” cliffhanger showed her being delivered to mysterious planet. Clearly, they want her for her scientific and cloning knowledge, but the question is what exactly does the Empire want her to do. The answer might come from Star Wars Legends because the mysterious planet could very well be Wayland. That planet, in a place called Mount Tantiss, is where the Emperor housed his cloning facilities in Legends continuity. That means that Nala Se is likely going to be forced into spearheading Palpatine’s early efforts to clone himself in Season 2. Maybe Grogu will even get into the mix after a definite The Mandalorian connection in the finale as well.
Where In The Galaxy Is Boba Fett?
This whole show is centered around clones from the Jango Fett template, and Admiral Rampart just blew up Kamino. However, there has only been one single name drop for the notorious bounty hunter. Not to mention, phasing out clone troopers while the Empire solidifies control over the galaxy is kind of important to Boba. Why he didn’t show up in Season 1 is puzzling, so him making an appearance in Season 2 is almost a guarantee. The question that needs to be answered is what has he been up to for all of Season 1. He seemingly dueled Cad Bane, but there has to be more than that.
Have We Seen The Last Of Fennec Shand?
Fennec Shand was introduced in The Mandalorian, but her character got a little more attention in The Bad Batch. Clearly, she will be a major player when Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett comes out, but the question is whether she will continue to appear in The Bad Batch or if the show only worked as a bridge for her character. During Season 1, she was secretly working for Nala Se to keep Omega safe from possible Kaminoan plots. With all of the Kaminoans out of the picture, Shand’s services may no long be needed, but Nala Se may need the bounty hunter to keep Omega away from the Empire in Season 2.
Who Is Rex Working With?
After a lot of build-up, Captain Rex finally showed up in “Battle Scars,” and it’s clear that he has been working with some people who oppose the Empire. There is no surprise that Rex is working against the Empire, but he kept tight-lipped on what exactly he’s been doing and who he’s been doing it with. At this point, the Rebel Alliance doesn’t really exist, so the question is which Rebel cell has Rex allied himself with. It could be Saw Guerra, Bail Organa, Ahsoka or someone completely new. Season 2 needs to dive deeper into Rex’s whereabouts because there is too much potential there to leave unexplored.
What’s The Deal With Commander Cody?
Although he wasn’t featured in Star Wars: The Clone Wars as heavily as Captain Rex or some other clones in Domino Squad, Commander Cody was one of the more important clones in the conflict. He routinely worked with Obi-Wan Kenobi, and it was his squad that nearly killed the famed Jedi Master on Kashyyyk. In Legends, Cody served the Empire, but in canon, his fate is completely unknown. Many theorized that The Bad Batch would address his fate, but so far it hasn’t. So, hopefully, Season 2 will answer whether Cody joined up with the Empire or came to his senses after Order 66 and somehow joined the Rebellion – maybe even with Rex.
Where Did Captain Gregor Go?
“War-Mantle” was an eventful episode. It explained how the Empire was phasing out clones, and it also reintroduced Captain Gregor. He had his own story early in The Clone Wars, but the clone commando had fallen off of the radar since then. It was also known that he and Rex lived together during the time of Star Wars Rebels. So, seeing him here was a good way to fill in some questions about his character, but there needs to be more. Besides, it’s kind of weird how Gregor didn’t help Clone Force 99 rescue Hunter, who was captured while rescuing him. He and Rex must have had something else that was awfully important.
Where Is Commander Wolffe?
Woffe served with Plo Koon during the Clone Wars, and survived the war. By the time of Star Wars Rebels, he was living with Rex and Gregor, but nothing is known about the intermediate. With the show introducing Gregor and, hopefully, giving more screen time to Rex, it would only make sense to introduce Wolffe as well. So, the question is how he meets up with Rex and what he’s been up to since Order 66.
Created by Dave Filoni, Star Wars: The Bad Batch has been greenlit for a second season which will premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
