Mutants in the Marvel Universe are exactly like humans, except for the fact that each one has a mutation that can act as a superpower in that it grants them extra abilities. These powers grant them the capacity to do a tremendous amount of good or evil in the world, depending on the type of person they are.
However, morality is not always the deciding factor when it comes to how a power is used. Not every mutant has complete control over their powers and sometimes, this can be deadly. In fact, it may even seem as though some of them don’t have any control of their powers at all. Whether this is due to the volatile nature of the power or external circumstances, these mutants have famously struggled to control their powers throughout their histories.

Scott Summers has always been one of the greatest heroes of the Marvel Universe. As Cyclops, he has fought back against the forces of evil many times and saved countless lives. He has the ability to shoot powerful lasers from his eyes, which he has been able to use to his advantage over the years.
However, he only has this level of control over his powers because of the headgear he wears. Without this, he would let out his optic blasts whenever he opened his eyes.
9 Orphan-Maker’s Powers Are Mysterious And Deadly
The strange thing with Orphan-Maker is that besides for a select few, nobody knows exactly what his powers are. After being “adopted” by Nanny, a mutant who fancies herself as a caretaker for mutant children, he was given a special containment suit to keep his powers and his body under control.
In Hellions, written by Zeb Wells, part of his armor broke off, which caused an acidic liquid to begin pouring out, which melted the face of one of his enemies. That’s all that readers know of his powers, save for the fact that even Professor X is worried about the young man’s powers.
8 Jean Grey Destroyed An Entire World With Her Powers
Jean Grey is an omega-level telepath and a very powerful telekinetic, which means that she’s a force to be reckoned with. Any amount of power on this level is hard to control, as has been seen with Jean many times.
In addition, she was once possessed by the Phoenix Force in The Dark Phoenix Saga, by Chris Claremont, which wildly amplified her natural powers. Jean, who’s a well-known heroine in the Marvel Universe, was corrupted by this new power, which eventually led to her destroying a planet that had billions of inhabitants. This was definitely not her best day.
7 Legion’s Multiple Personalities And Unlimited Power Don’t Mix Well
If someone were to imagine the most powerful mutant ability, they would probably think of being able to have any power at their disposal. David Haller, aka Legion, has been blessed with this specific ability. He can create new powers for himself at a moment’s notice, but there’s a catch. Legion has a complex personality disorder, which when combined with the ability to spontaneously create new powers, results in an extremely uncontrollable mutant.
His different personas are constantly fighting for superiority in his head, as is seen in Return of Legion, by Zeb Wells, which can cause him to lose control and accidentally unleash his powers.
6 Rogue’s Power Is More Of A Curse
Rogue, a longtime hero and member of the X-Men, has quite the power set. Her main mutant ability is that she absorbs energy and power. She can use this to drain the powers of her enemies, which sometimes gives her their powers as well, making her an invaluable asset to the superhero community. However, her powers are also somewhat of a curse because of the fact that she can drain all the power or even the life out of anyone she makes skin-to-skin contact with.
This has been seen in stories like Mutant X, written by Howard Mackie, when Rogue puts Colossus in a coma after absorbing his powers.
5 Manifold Isn’t The One Who’s In Control Of His Abilities
At first glance, almost everybody would think that they know exactly what Eden Fesi’s mutant power is. They would say that he’s just a run-of-the-mill teleporter. He is, however, so much more than that. Manifold actually communicates with universal space itself, and asks it for what he wants.
This means that he can use this ability to teleport, create portals, and even make himself invisible, among many other things. These powers aren’t within his to control though. He only communicates with the universe, which is the entity that actually has full control of these spatial powers.
4 Lost’s Powers Affect People In Quite The Hilarious Manner
Lost is a mutant who was recently introduced in Si Spurrier and Robert Quinn’s new series, Way Of X. She has the mutant ability to reduce the effects of gravity in her general vicinity. This ability could be quite useful in combat against any enemies of Krakoa, if she ever learns how to control it.
For the time being, she is unable to control her powers at all, which is quite annoying for most people who find themselves near her. Her disruption of gravity causes people to start feeling dizzy and vomiting, as has been seen in Way of X.
3 Isca The Unbeaten Always Wins
Isca the Unbeaten is an ancient mutant from the old island of Okkara. She was a friend of Apocalypse and his people and fought with them against their enemy, the world of Amenth. However, when it became clear that Amenth was going to defeat the mutants of Okkara, Isca defected to their side, as seen in X-Men #14, by Jonathan Hickman.
She didn’t choose to leave her allies, it’s just how her powers work. As her name suggests, she can never be beaten. Understandably, this power makes her an omega-level mutant, meaning she is extremely powerful. No matter what sort of conflict she is in, and no matter how much she may care for her old allies, she will always win, even if it means siding with people she just tried to kill.
2 Matthew Malloy Is One Of The Most Dangerous Mutants Ever
Matthew Malloy was a mutant from an alternate universe that proved to be too much for anyone to handle. He gained access to his many mutant abilities after experiencing severe mental and emotional trauma. His powers were essentially god-like, in that he could warp reality, make energy, and even resurrect himself from the dead.
Unfortunately, all the trauma he had gone through left him quite unstable, which led to massive amounts of death and destruction whenever he used his powers. He is so powerful, that the only way to stop him was by going back in time and ensuring that his parents never met, as seen in Uncanny X-Men #31, by Brian Michael Bendis. This act completely removed him from existence, which is definitely a good thing for the people of the Marvel Universe.
1 The Death Of Moira X Could End It All
For the longest time, it was thought that Moira MacTaggert was just a normal human. However, it was revealed in House Of X/Powers Of X, by Jonathan Hickman, that she is in fact a mutant. Her power is reincarnation, but with a twist. When she dies, the universe itself basically rewinds to when Moira’s life begins, essentially erasing all that has happened since then. Her death essentially leads to the death of many people, which could even be permanent if she does things differently in her new life. It has also been heavily implied that Moira’s ability to be reincarnated is limited to about 10 lives, so this could mean a total wipeout of a section of the main Marvel Universe’s timeline.
