The Skywalkers have been the center point of almost the entire Star Wars franchise, from Anakin’s fall into Darth Vader to Luke becoming the galaxy’s savior. They are as ingrained into the mythos as Jedi and Sith are. Few come close to them in power. Kylo, Rey, and Palpatine are the only ones that come to mind in canon.
Which of them is the strongest in the Force? That’s a hard question to answer, as while Luke defeated Vader in combat, the depth of Anakin’s abilities is far deeper than Luke’s. He was able to branch out more with his Force abilities, especially in the comics. It allowed him to do things that Luke never could.
10 Anakin Was Impenetrable To Blaster Fire Thanks To Form V
While Luke could use Form V to a decent degree, he wasn’t the master that Anakin was. Anakin was a master of Djem So and practitioner of the Shien variant as well. It gave him an unparalleled way of countering or parrying blows in lightsaber combat, but the true strength for Anakin was how easily he could deflect blaster fire thanks to Form V.
He was never in danger of getting shot with a stray bolt, even if the range between him and a soldier was only a few feet.
9 Anakin Could Utilize Jar’Kai With Effectiveness
For those that don’t know, Jar’Kai is a lightsaber style that employs two lightsabers. Both Ahsoka Tano and Assajj Ventress were notable practitioners of it in the Clone Wars cartoon series.
While Anakin was never on par with them, he was able to use it with a level of effectiveness against a fallen Barriss Offee and during his battle with Count Dooku. It’s proof of how multi-faceted a fighter Anakin always was. He was always looking to improve himself.
8 As Vader, He Was One Of The Few To Use His Lightsaber As A Projectile Weapon
Lightsabers were a cherished heirloom for both Jedi and Sith. They never liked parting with it, always keeping it along their hip or firmly gripped in their hands.
As Darth Vader, Anakin became one of the few who would willingly throw his lightsaber as if it were a projectile weapon. With the use of the Force, he was able to guide the weapon where he wanted it to go, eliminating a foe who Vader could not otherwise reach. It’s part of what made him such a dangerous fighter.
7 Anakin Could Activate His Lightsaber Using The Force
The ability to activate a lightsaber via the Force was notable done by Kylo Ren when he killed Snoke towards the end of Last Jedi. However, he wasn’t the only one capable of it. His idol, Darth Vader, or Anakin, was as well.
During the Clone Wars, Anakin cut apart Sugi with quick use of the Force. Anakin was so adept at it that even his master Obi-Wan complimented him on his efforts. It was one of the many talents Anakin had that kept pointing to him being the chosen one.
6 Anakin Was The Only Human Pod Racer Ever
As both a human and a young one at that, Anakin never should have been as good at pod racing as he was. Admittedly, before Qui-Gon’s arrival, he’d never won anything, but the fact he could even keep up was incredible.
Thanks to the Force, his eyes were able to keep up with the intense speeds of the race, sensing danger before it was there. While it’s possible Luke would have been the same way given his lineage, he was never given the chance to show off his piloting skills in the same way.
5 Anakin Could Use The Force To Create Air Bubbles Around Others
Prior to succumbing to the dark side, Anakin’s force powers were quietly flourishing. He could do things none of his fellow padawans could and even had powers masters had yet to unlock.
One of those was the ability to create air bubbles around people, giving them the ability to breathe even while submerged. It’s a tactic he used to help save Padmé while on Mon Cala. It would have been incredible to see just how far his powers would have gone had he given them more focus as a padawan.
4 As Vader, He Could Stop AT-ATs Mid Step & Crush Them With Nothing More Than The Force
Anakin’s use of telekinesis was unparalleled and may have even been more powerful than Palpatine’s. He could help guide freighters down for a landing or lift them with little strain on himself.
The biggest feat is when he stopped an AT-AT mid-step so it wouldn’t crush him. He then used the Force to crush the AT-AT like it was nothing more than a giant tin can. Had he not been interrupted, he would have turned the vehicle into a heap of scrap metal on the ground.
3 Force Barriers Helped Keep Anakin Alive While Submerged Under Lava
In the comics, Darth Vader’s abilities are more elaborated on, and he comes off looking like the juggernaut that the galaxy had every right in fearing. One of those instances is his Force barrier that once saved him from being burned alive again on Mustafar and saved him and his ally from falling debris.
It’s an ability that would have looked amazing on screen in some form, especially since the barrier could only handle a certain amount of damage.
2 Vader Was Capable Of Force Stasis Similar To What Kylo Ren Used
When Kylo Ren stopped a blaster bolt in the middle of the air, it was a pretty hype moment to start Force Awakens. It showed how advanced Force techniques had become and played into his infatuation with Vader, as his idol was capable of doing the same.
As with Kylo, it went beyond blaster fire to people as well. Vader was able to put two separate Inquisitors into a stasis, flexing how powerful he was to his two underlings and making sure they knew they were no match for him at all.
1 Vader Commanded Fear In All That Saw Him
Rogue One had its pitfalls, but one thing it did better than any other movie was showing what commanding a presence Vader had. When he entered a room, people listened or would suffer at the hands of his Force choke.
That fear was on display with Krennic, but none more so than at the end of the movie. The sheer terror the rebel troops had when he ignited his lightsaber was legendary. He struck fear into the hearts of anyone that looked at him, something Luke could never do.
