Clancy Brown is the latest actor to join the impressive cast of John Wick: Chapter 4, coming to theaters May 27, 2022.
Deadline reported the deal between Brown and Lionsgate, quoting director Chad Stahelski as saying, “I have been a fan of Clancy Brown’s since I can remember. To have him be a part of this project is an honor. He will make a perfect addition to the World of John Wick!”
Clancy Brown, whose role in John Wick: Chapter 4 is undisclosed, is a character actor perhaps best known for his voice acting, playing Mr. Krabs in SpongeBob SquarePants, Surtur in Thor: Ragnarok and Lex Luthor in DC Animated Universe series Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. Notable live-action roles of his include Viktor Kruger in Highlander, Capt. Byron Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption, Sgt. Charles Zim in Starship Troopers, Waylon “Jock” Jeffcoat in Billions and Stanley Thomas in Promising Young Woman. He will be starring in the upcoming Dexter: New Blood, premiering on Showtime on November 7.
Brown joins pop star Rina Sawayama, Star Wars: Rogue One‘s Donnie Yen, Wynonna Earp‘s Shamier Anderson, It‘s Bill Skarsgård, Army of the Dead‘s Hiroyuki Sanada, Doctor Strange‘s Scott Adkins and Alita: Battle Angel‘s Marko Zaror as new additions to the John Wick ensemble. Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishbourne, Ian McShane and Lance Reddick will be reprising their respective roles as John Wick, The Bowery King, Winston and Charon, respectively.
John Wick: Chapter 4 began filming at the end of June, with the movie shooting this summer in Berlin, Paris, Japan and New York City. This is the first John Wick installment not to be written by series creator Derek Kolstad; John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum co-writer Shay Hatten is handling writing duties along with Michael Finch.
Chapter 4 will pick up immediately following the conclusion of Chapter 3, in which a severely injured John Wick was recuperating in a bunker with The Bowery King and voicing his anger at the High Table. While an official summary for Chapter 4 has yet to be announced, one can assume that Wick will be enacting revenge against the High Table in typical hyperviolent fashion, and Chad Stahelski has promised that the fourth John Wick film won’t present a “happy ending” for the emotionally damaged assassin.
Audiences will get to see how Clancy Brown fits into the underground society of killers when John Wick: Chapter 4 hits theaters on May 27, 2022.
