While the highly anticipated new chapter of Tite Kubo’s Bleach manga gives fans a hint about the series’ future, a new exhibition coming to Japan will take a look back at the shonen manga’s past.
As reported by Crunchyroll, the new Bleach exhibition will be held in Tokyo’s Shibuya district from Dec. 18 – Jan. 16 and celebrates the 20th anniversary of the original publication of Tite Kubo’s landmark shonen manga series. The stylish preview video for the exhibit focuses on the characters that appeared throughout the series, from central protagonists like Ichigo and Rukia, to villains such as the duplicitous Aizen. More details about the exhibit will be revealed in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #38, which will be published on Aug. 23.
Bleach tells the story of Ichigo Kurosaki, a young man who gets drawn into a supernatural conflict after a chance encounter with Rukia, a young woman who is actually a member of the Soul Reapers, a group of powerful warriors who protect humanity and shepherd the spirits of the recently departed. Ichigo is forced to become a Soul Reaper himself and must do battle with the Hollows, a race of violent spirits who prey not just on the souls of the dead, but also pose a threat to the living. Kubo’s manga was one of the most popular shonen series of the early ’00s, and was adapted into an anime series that ran for over eight years. In addition to the new manga chapter that was just published, the anime series has a brand new season in production, which will adapt the chapters of the manga that were published after the original series ended.
The Bleach manga is localized and distributed in English by VIZ Media. The anime series is available for streaming on Hulu, Netflix and Crunchyroll.
