Heads up, golfers, because Mario Golf: Super Rush has currently teed up several new features, in the game’s first major update.
Detailed via the official Nintendo of America Twitter account, the free update went live on Aug. 5. It adds Toadette as a new playable character, who brings both speed and accuracy thanks to her high swing control, allowing players to more accurately pinpoint their shots. Toadette’s Special Shot, her Super Pickax Stinger, blasts away any balls in its path as it tears through the course, while her Turnip-Toss Dash can boost past opponents and throw turnips in their path.
Furthermore, New Donk City from Super Mario Odyessy has been added as a new course, featuring 18 new holes for Standard and Speed Golf, as well as Solo Challenges with plenty of buildings to bank shots off. Ranked matches for Standard and Speed Golf are also now available, offering character outfits and colors as monthly rewards depending on players’ ranking — such as red, blue or yellow Yoshi colors for August for reaching A-rank or higher. Improved motion controls have been added as well.
With this free update marking the first significant content drop since the game was released back in June, Mario Golf: Super Rush looks to improve upon its moderate critical reception. According to a variety of reviews, critics seemed to praise the game for its simple arcadey fun and innovative Speed Golf mode but noted its overall lack of content when compared to previous entries in Nintendo’s spinoff sports series.
Developed by Camelot Software Planning and published by Nintendo, Mario Golf: Super Rush is currently available for the Nintendo Switch.
