Letterkenny: Where Is the Town’s Police? | CBR

Over the course of Letterkenny‘s nine seasons, pretty much all of the main and secondary characters have committed a veritable litany of crimes. The most obvious one would, of course, be the non-stop brawling, but there are more than few others as well. The confusing part has been that police have never shown up, not even once, to any of these illegal parties, brawls or activities. At this point, it’s actually kind of odd.

The Canadian sitcom is set in Letterkenny, a fictional town in rural Ontario with approximately 5000 people. The story focuses on the lives and antics of a group of self-described hicks made up of Katy, Daryl, Squirrelly Dan and their de facto leader, Wayne. Beyond them, groups of hockey players, Skids, fighters, French Canadians and members of the local Indigenous population also play big roles in the series.

Noticeable by their absence are members of law enforcement. In Ontario, there are several levels of police. Some communities are big enough to have their own devoted police force. Beyond that, there is also the Ontario Provincial Police, which has duties province-wide while also providing services in communities that don’t have their own.

Given the size and population of Letterkenny, it’s unlikely that they have their own devoted police force. That being said, they could be part of an area with a regional force of some kind. The more likely situation is that Letterkenny would have a contract with the OPP to provide police services to their community. And considering what Letterkenny is like, it would be absurd to think that they don’t have any kind of police force on hand.

Even if the constant street and bar fights that Wayne is involved in are ignored, there is still a lot of illicit activity going on. Stewart and his gang of Skids have been running a profitable drug operation in town for years. In addition to selling a variety of drugs, the Skids are also notorious for making and selling meth. It is an open secret that everyone seems to know about.

At the same time, Wayne and his ever-expanding crew are constantly getting into massive brawls that cause huge amounts of property damage. But somehow, no one from any sort of police force ever seems to follow up. Their favorite bar, MoDeans, has been destroyed twice, and no one seems to ask any questions about it. When the same business burns down twice under mysterious circumstances, it is something worth looking into.

After nine seasons, it’s starting to seem strange that no one from any level of law enforcement has looked into Stewart’s various dealings, the perpetual brawls or the possible serial arson of MoDeans. While Letterkenny‘s creators might not want to address this component, it has reached a point where the lack of a police presence in town has actually become a plot hole.
