WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Ted Lasso Season 2, Episode 2, “Lavender,” now available on Apple TV+.
As much as Season 1 of Ted Lasso dealt with Coach Ted (Jason Sudeikis) acclimating to football and England, a vast portion of the series focused on a particular love triangle at AFC Richmond. It was with Keeley (Juno Temple), Ted’s veteran captain Roy (Brett Goldstein) and Jamie (Phil Dunster), which added romantic drama to the comedic tales of the club. Now, Season 2 has reignited this explosive love triangle, with Jamie making a stunning return to Richmond.
Roy hated Jamie. He was also jealous that Jamie got a decent girl like Keeley. In time, Keeley dumped the philandering and immature Jamie, hooking up with Roy. Now it seems they’re happy as their relationship matures. Keeley’s focusing on her branding job more than modeling and seems settled, growing and inspired by her new beau.
But the second episode this season ends with Ted bringing Jamie in after his Man City contract got scrapped to aid their promotion bid. The thing is, this Jamie may be the perfect version Keeley always wanted him to be. He approached her, vulnerable and honest, hinting he wanted purpose and direction, which led to her pushing him toward Ted and begging for forgiveness. She loves strong men being passionate and open, which is what she sometimes gets from Roy.
If Jamie maintains this redemption arc, there’s a hefty possibility Keeley could fall back into the trap as their past has a lot of substance amid all the glam and style. The final shot has her boss and club owner, Rebecca, watching Keeleyand noting how Keeley’s staring wide-eyed at Jamie on the field.
It may be a concern for his future and how the players and staff take him back after his narcissistic ways, but it could be Rebecca senses a spark once more. Should the pressures of his football punditry get to him, Roy might end up going from being a romantic to a jerk again, which means if he spirals downward, a Jaime on the upswing can capitalize.
Once he’s able to push the right buttons, she might gravitate to him, seeing as he’ll be around Keeley more. It sets up a tale of jealousy to come between both men again, which might affect Jamie on the field too. Ultimately, it’ll test Keeley as she tries to figure out which man’s ideal for her life goals.
Starring Jason Sudeikis as the titular coach, Season 2 of Ted Lasso is underway on Apple TV+. The first two episodes are streaming now, with subsequent episodes available every Friday.
