Fans eagerly anticipate the sequel to The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild with bated breath. Many fans have theories about what the story will be about. Other fans eagerly hope for the return of fan-favorite characters such as the Champions and more present-day characters when the sequel is released in 2022.
Some fans observed hints at mechanics from the last game in the trailer. Additionally, they noticed that there will be new mechanics introduced, which of course comes with any sequel. With this in mind, fans hope to see their favorite mechanics from Breath of the Wild return for the sequel, while always wishing for new mechanics to replace the ones from the last game they weren’t quite so fond of.
10 Needs A Comeback: Cooking Is A Fun Way To Earn Stat-Boosting Items
Not only could Link make some tasty dishes, but these dishes also gave him temporary stat boosts in skills such as stealth, agility, and climbing. Some even gave him temporary resistance to electric attacks, cold mountainous areas, and the desert heat.
Additionally, fans thought it gave Link more of a personality due to how happy he looked while cooking most of the time. Because of how fun and also fascinating cooking could be, many hope that this mechanic comes back in the sequel.
9 Never Want To See Again: Slow-Paced, Security-Bypassing Quests
As fun as the sidequests leading up to and involving the Divine Beasts typically were, many were annoyed at the security-bypassing sidequest they had to do to access Vah Rudania. This involved the player having to sneak Yunobo past several of the flying sentries so they could use Yunobo as a cannon to hit various areas of Rudania itself.
Many players struggled with the slow pacing of this sidequest, compared to the faster-paced quests such as breaking ice to appease Vah Ruta while riding on Sidon’s back. Due to the struggles of the slower pacing of this quest, it would be nice if such laborious tasks were kept to a minimum for BotW2.
8 Needs A Comeback: Shrine Quests Were Fun & Fascinating To Play Through
Despite how challenging some of the shrine quests were, fans enjoyed playing through many of them to unlock new items, and gain more spirit orbs to boost their stamina and hearts.
It helped that while most were puzzles, some of the shrine quests consisted of some fun combat trials. Hopefully the shrine quests reappear in the sequel in some capacity, especially with new areas in the skies being revealed in the trailer. Ideally, there will also be new mechanics for any shrine quests that might take place in the more sky-dominated areas.
7 Never Want To See Again: Horses Dying (& Paying Exorbitant Fees To Revive Them)
Players did everything they could to keep their horses alive when playing the game. Not only was it devastating for them to find out that horses could actually die, but unlocking the area for reviving horses required players to pay an expensive fee of one thousand Rupees.
This irked many players, who were already broke enough trying to awaken the other Great Fairies throughout the game by paying them Rupees. If this mechanic comes back in the sequel, hopefully it won’t be so expensive to bring the horses back.
6 Needs A Comeback: Animals Leading Players To Hidden Treasure
Some players discovered that by feeding dogs food such as meat, the dogs would befriend them and lead them to a hidden treasure for the player to find. Often these treasures were useful items, or more Rupees, making spending the meat on the dogs absolutely worth it.
Even though this is a fairly small mechanic in the game compared to activities such as paragliding everywhere the player went, fans enjoyed having these small moments to bond with animals in the game and also find some cool things in the process.
5 Never Want To See Again: Eventide-Style Areas & Sidequests
Despite how hilarious the results were with playing on Eventide Island and trying to survive, many players found this to be an extremely challenging sidequest and hope that there are no similar quests in the sequel.
Players found themselves struggling to survive on the island, let alone find all the orbs and put them in their rightful places to both regain the items they had prior to coming to the island and unlock the shrine that was on said island. When the sequel is released, fans hope they don’t find themselves in similar Eventide Island-related scenarios again.
4 Needs A Comeback: Paragliding Will Be Perfect For Exploring A Game World With Even More Verticality
Fans enjoyed paragliding their way through the game. Sometimes, paragliding was required as part of a few sidequests and was also required in the first portion of the game to unlock getting off the Great Plateau and accessing the rest of the land.
Considering that the sequel involves some flying around and heading to locations in the sky as revealed in the trailer, recalling Skyward Sword (which, conveniently enough, just got an HD remaster), some fans hope that this means that paragliding will return in the sequel. It makes sense, as it would be the perfect way to explore a map that has even more verticality to it than the original BotW‘s did.
3 Never Want To See Again: Constantly Breaking Weapons
Longtime Zelda fans were surprised to discover that weapons broke after several (or very few, depending on the weapon) uses. They were even more incensed when they realized that this also applied to the powerful weapons of the Champions Mipha, Urbosa, Daruk, and Revali. Even though they weren’t permanently lost due to being able to repair them in-game, they were expensive to remake for future uses in-battle.
Though there are a plethora of weapons one can find and use in the game to replace the broken ones, hopefully the weapons in the next game will be less breakable, or at least have the Champions’ weapons be harder to break as well as Link’s own Master Sword.
2 Needs A Comeback: Being Able To See Cutscenes Of Past Events Via The Discovery Of “Memories”
To recover all of Link’s memories, players often had to explore most if not all of Hyrule to find the specific locations where he had those memories. This led to many players discovering some very beautiful locations in the midst of memory-hunting.
It was a great mechanic since it encouraged so much exploration and led to discovering some great places to camp for the night in-game, or desire as a vacation spot in real life if they existed. Not only did they find new places, but they could compare the present-day places to how they appeared in the memories they were associated with.
1 Never Want To See Again: The Frustrating Randomness Of Tracking Down Kilton To Trade Monster Parts
Kilton’s appearance in the game creeped out many fans. Even though Kilton has some fairly fun items to trade monster parts for, many found him hard to track down. This is because he appears in one of a few select places in the game, and only during the night.
Some fans appreciated the creepiness of Kilton because it reminded them of their time playing Majora’s Mask, but others hope that even if the sequel doesn’t get rid of Kilton, they’ll make him much easier to locate and buy things from at least.
