10 Marvel Characters Hawkeye Has Never Beat In A Fight | CBR

Hawkeye doesn’t get a lot of respect and that’s a shame. There are few Marvel heroes as brave as he is, and even without powers, he’s long been one of the Avengers’ most underrated members. He always puts himself and his body on the line to help the save the day. Hawkeye may not be the strongest Avenger, but he has it where it counts.

While he’s always ready to give it his all, there are a good amount of characters that Hawkeye has never beat in a fight. It’s not for lack of trying—Hawkeye never gives up—but there are some who have proven more than a match for him.

10 Wolverine Is The Best There Is At What He Does And Sometimes, That’s Been Beating Hawkeye

Wolverine by Adam Kubert

Wolverine and Hawkeye haven’t clashed too many times, but Hawkeye has never been able to take the down the diminutive mutant. Wolverine is one of the most dangerous heroes on the planet and between his claws, healing factor, adamantium skeleton, and years of experience, he always has Hawkeye beat.

Although Hawkeye has a range advantage on Wolverine, there’s not much a guy with a bow and arrow can do against someone who can survive nuclear explosions. And even though Hawkeye is a good of a fighter, he and his trick arrows can’t really hang with Wolverine’s skill in battle.

9 Few Heroes Have Ever Beat Daredevil

Daredevil perched on a rooftop.

Daredevil is surprisingly overpowered for a hero whose only powers include super senses and enhanced agility. Heroes like Wolverine, Spider-Man, Captain America, Beast, and Hercules have lost to Daredevil. Daredevil has even beat Ultron. Let that sink in. Daredevil has had some pretty amazing fights over the years.

Hawkeye is good, but he isn’t beat Daredevil good. Captain America isn’t even beat Daredevil good. Daredevil’s super senses allow him to anticipate his foe’s movements, and he’s easily agile enough to dodge Hawkeye’s arrows and outfight him in hand to hand combat.

8 Hawkeye Keeps A Low Profile During Fights Against Ultron

Age Of Ultron

Ultron, a powerful android created by Hank Pym, is one of the Avengers’ greatest foes. His adamantium shell makes him extremely hard threat to hurt, especially for a guy whose main weapon is just a bow and arrow. Even with Hawkeye’s trick arrows, there’s pretty much nothing he can do against Ultron.

Even though he was part of the Avengers when they beat Ultron, Hawkeye tries to stay out of Ultron’s way. Hawkeye is many things, but stupid isn’t one of them, and he knows that he’d lose in a fight against Ultron. His job is simply to stay in the background, shoot some arrows, and get out of there.

7 Spider-Man And Hawkeye Have A Lot In Common But That Doesn’t Mean Hawkeye Has Beat Him

Non-Stop Spider-Man feature

Spider-Man and Hawkeye are pretty good friends and they have a lot in common: both of them are plucky underdogs with good senses of humor, both of them are way better heroes than they think they are, and both have unique talents that make them dangerous opponents. Although they’re friends, existing together in the Marvel Universe means that they’ve fought at least once.

Spider-Man can be pretty silly, but he’s tough as nails and his spider-senses and agility, combined with super strength, have allowed him to beat Hawkeye every time they’ve fought.

6 Magneto Hasn’t Fought The Avengers Often But When He Has, Hawkeye Was Ineffectual

Magneto Using His Powers

Magneto, for someone who hates humans, doesn’t often go after human heroes. However, every time he’s fought the Avengers, the team was lucky to survive. Magneto is one of the most powerful beings on Earth and the Avengers just aren’t ready for him.

Hawkeye is at a severe disadvantage against Magneto due to most of Hawkeye’s weapons including metal, which plays right into Magneto’s wheelhouse. Plus, Hawkeye has human blood, which contains iron. The Avengers don’t want any of Magneto and for Hawkeye, that’s doubly so.

5 Black Panther Has Hawkeye’s Number

Black Panther is one of the toughest Avengers of them all. It’s not just because of the herbs that give him enhanced physical ability. It’s not just the vibranium technology or costume. It’s the mental toughness, the astounding skill, and the near unbreakable will. Black Panther can take out the entirety of the Avengers on his own, Hawkeye included.

Hawkeye’s arrows can’t pierce Black Panther’s vibranium weave costume and in a hand to hand fight, there’s no way that Hawkeye can outfight the Wakandan monarch. The few times that they have fought, Hawkeye has fallen to Black Panther.

4 Captain America Taught Hawkeye A Lot About Fighting But Not Everything

Captain America With Shield

Captain America is pretty used to training others. He’s given members of the team, like pampered Tony Stark and tough Black Widow, pointers in combat to become better. Hawkeye is no different, and he’s learned a lot about fighting from Cap.

The few times the two heroes have clashed, it’s ended badly for Hawkeye. Hawkeye is good but he’s not Captain America good. Their fights have rarely been serious but even if they were, there’s no doubt Cap would win.

3 Black Widow Brought Hawkeye To The Dance And She Could Take Him Out

Hawkeye and Black Widow have a complicated relationship. She found and used him as a pawn in her early battles against Iron Man. Later, they would work together as Avengers and become actual friends. But even then, there’s no doubt about the outcome of a fight between the two heroes: Black Widow would wipe the floor with Hawkeye.

They haven’t fought many times but when they have, Black Widow won. While both of them can be pretty tricky in a fight, Hawkeye just can’t match Black Widow and that’s cost him every time they’ve clashed.

2 Scarlet Witch Was Responsible For Hawkeye’s Death And Resurrection

Every time Scarlet Witch has lost her mind, it’s gone very badly for the Avengers. In Avengers Disassembled, Scarlet Witch uses her reality altering powers to throw near impossible challenges at the Avengers. Hawkeye fought bravely and sacrificed himself to save his friends.

He never even got to face her one on one until House Of M, when a version of Hawkeye that she created confronted her. She subsequently killed him and then resurrected him at the end of the event, which was pretty good of her, all things considered.

1 Iron Man Was The First Hero Hawkeye Fought

Hawkeye’s first adventures were as a villain that worked with Black Widow while she was trying to get Iron Man’s technology for the Russians. If one thinks that a guy with a bow and arrow fighting a guy in a technologically advanced suit of armor is a mismatch, then they’re completely right. Hawkeye tried but he was unable to beat ol’ Shellhead.

They’d go on to become friends and teammates in the Avengers and clash several more times, because this is Marvel, but it would always end for Hawkeye in at best a draw. He’s never been able to take down Iron Man.
