Skyrim: How to Obtain the Konahrik Mask | CBR

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim focuses heavily on Dragons and their history throughout its main story and beyond The Dragons were worshipped, and great Dragon Priests served the creatures, helping them to rule over Skyrim in ancient times. Some of the highest-ranking Dragon Priests were granted incredible powers, and even death has become trivial to them.

Undead Dragon Priests can be located throughout Skyrim, each one equipped with a unique Dragon Priest Mask named after its wearer and bearing some very useful effects. Within Skyrim‘s base game there is one mask that is much rarer than any of the others, providing some truly impressive benefits: the Konahrik Mask

To obtain the Konahrik Mask, make your way to the ruins of Labyrinthian. This area is visited near the end of the College of Winterhold’s questline, so it may well already be marked on your map. Search the area until you come across a circular barrow. Inside, you’ll find a skeleton next to a note written by two mercenaries. The note explains that they were hired by a scholar to accompany them to Labyrinthian, and the two thugs watched in astonishment as the scholar put on a wooden mask and completely vanished. The Wooden Mask can be found next to the skeleton.

Wearing this mask within this barrow will cause you to time travel back to an age prior to this sanctuary’s destruction. The room features a large shrine to the Dragon Priests, with slots for each of the base game’s masks. Acquiring every mask and placing them within the sanctuary will reward you with the game’s rarest and most powerful mask, Konahrik. Each of the game’s Dragon Priest Masks is worn by a re-animated priest inside Skyrim’s many dungeons. The most effective way to track them all down is to head to High Hrothgar and speak with Arngeir.

Due to the priest’s connection to the Dragons, they can mostly be found near Word Walls, and speaking with Arngeir will let players ask him whether he has located any Words of Power. Doing so will start a quest, as Arngeir will direct the player to one and mark it on the map. Doing so will allow them to not only locate multiple Word Walls and learn new Dragon Shouts, but will also bring the Dragonborn into contact with a majority of the game’s Dragon Priests — who must be defeated to acquire their masks.

The only Dragon Priests that cannot be located this way are Nahkriin and Morokei. Nahkriin is battled near the end of the main storyline at Skuldafn, and Morokei is located inside Labyrinthian during the College of Winterhold quest “The Staff of Magnus.” After obtaining all eight Dragon Priest Masks on Skyrim’s mainland and the Wooden Mask, it’s time to head back to the barrow in Labyrinthian and don the Wooden Mask once again. Inside the sanctuary, place each Dragon Priest Mask on the altar. The Dragon skull in the center will open, revealing your prize.

Konahrik is the only base game Dragon Priest Mask with a unique design, sporting a set of tusks. This incredibly valuable relic boasts incredible abilities. Whenever you take damage while under 15% health, there is a 15% chance that the mask will automatically activate Grand Healing and Flame Cloak and the same time, healing the players and their followers while also defending against extra damage. Additionally, there is a 3% chance that Spectral Dragon Priest will be summoned to fight alongside you, a powerful ally that will further bolster your forces by summoning a Storm Atronach or reanimating a corpse.

Konahrik is a truly impressive item worthy of any player’s collection. If a high-level player dons the mask and has invested sufficiently into their health stat, the chances of the mask’s effect triggering increase drastically. Players will have more available health, and therefore they can take more hits while under 15% health. With enough investment into the stat, Konahrik has the potential to make the Dragonborn as undying as the priests that wore these ancient relics.
