At WWE Money in the Bank 2021, former WWE Champion Kofi Kingston attempted to reclaim the coveted title by overcoming reigning champ Bobby Lashley. Despite being the babyface in the encounter, Kingston showed up for the title match sporting ring gear inspired by the iconic Maters of the Universe villain Skeletor.
Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time Kingston has paid homage to He-Man’s arch-nemesis, with his previous Skeletor-inspired ring gear even getting the action figure treatment several years ago. This new outfit is a bit more elaborate, though, complete with a hooded vest and even a Masters of the Universe-esque New Day logo on the tights. The gear was designed by Jonathan Davenport, with Main Event Gear sharing behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram.
Unfortunately for the fan-favorite Kingston, however, Bobby Lashley apparently had the Power of Grayskull on his side. The one-sided championship bout ended after less than eight minutes, with Lashley utterly dominating the leader of the New Day before defeating him by technical submission to retain the WWE Championship.
A mainstay of WWE’s roster since 2008, Kingston finally won the big one at WrestleMania in 2019 when he defeated Daniel Bryan to become WWE Champion, becoming the company’s 30th Triple Crown Champion and 20th Grand Slam Champion in the process. Kingston held the title for 180 days before dropping it to Brock Lesnar on SmackDown‘s 20th anniversary show. Lesnar then lost the title to Drew McIntyre, who lost it to Randy Orton, who lost it back to McIntyre, who lost it to The Miz, who lost it to Lashley.
