My Hero Academia: 5 Quirks Stronger Than Shoto’s Half-Cold Half-Hot (& 5 That Are Weaker)

Shoto Todoroki’s Half-Cold Half-Hot Quirk is powerful, but is it the most powerful Quirk in My Hero Academia? Bakugo, Deku, and Shoto currently stand tall as the overpowered big three from the first years’ Class 1-A. As the show progresses, this ranking may change, but it’s unlikely that Shoto will fall off considering the overwhelming strength found within his Half-Cold Half-Hot Quirk.

Half-Cold Half-Hot is by no means the most powerful Quirk in My Hero Academia, but it does deserve a spot close to the top. The ability to create both ice and flame at an extreme level opens the door to some incredible special abilities that few heroes can even dream of. Still, Deku, Bakugo, and even Uraraka may have something to say about Shoto’s Quirk being the strongest of them all.

10 Stronger: Deku Has Proven That One For All Can Overpower Half-Cold Half-Hot When Controlled Properly

Anime My Hero Academia Shoto Bakugo Deku Hero Agency Attack

Shoto’s Quirk may one day rival the incredible amounts of super strength that Deku gained from One for All, but once All Might’s successor learns how to control all six Quirks inside One for All, Half-Cold Half-Hot will pale in comparison.

Shoto and Deku are peers thanks to the fact that they both wield multi-use Quirks, but the abilities that Deku carries with him are more versatile than Shoto’s. For example, Blackwhip has the ability to capture villains like Shoto’s ice and threaten enemies like Shoto’s fire, and that’s just one of the six Quirks within One for All.

9 Weaker: Shoto’s Quirk Covers A Wide Enough Area To Threaten Uraraka’s Zero Gravity

The ability to manipulate gravity is an extraordinary Quirk that Uravity has only just started tapping into. For now, Uravity’s Zero Gravity Quirk allows her to completely counter the gravitational power of the earth, and she’s recently begun to demonstrate the ability to adjust this power with a finer degree of precision.

Still, Shoto’s ability to conjure mountains of ice and fire offer him offensive and defensive abilities that Uraraka would have a hard time countering. The gravity-manipulating student would do best to float out of Shoto’s range if they ever encountered each other in combat, but if Endeavor proves anything, Shoto’s Quirk still has a long way to go before reaching its full potential.

8 Stronger: All For One Combines More Than Just Two Quirks

MHA All for one Recruited a Villain

For the same reasons that One for All outpaces Half-Cold Half-Hot, All for One puts Shoto’s Quirk to shame. All for One may just be the most powerful Quirk in all of My Hero Academia. The ability to accumulate Quirks is similar to Monoma’s Copy Quirk, but All for One lacks the weaknesses that Monoma does.

All for One doesn’t just borrow Quirks from others — he steals them. Then, if he sees fit, All for One can pass these stolen Quirks down to others. Shoto’s Quirk is impressive, but it does little to threaten All for One.

7 Weaker: Tsuyu’s Frog Quirk Will Have To Evolve Quite A Bit If It Ever Hopes To Overcome Half-Cold Half-Hot

Tsuyu Asui is a fan favorite, both because of her personality and because her Quirk is one of the easiest to understand. The Frog Quirk is simple: it gives Tsuyu the ability to mimic the powers of a frog despite the fact that she looks and thinks like a human.

Much like Spider-Man, the combination of animalistic capabilities and a human mind creates a powerful hero in the form of Froppy. Still, the ability to jump great distances and use her tongue as a rope is nothing compared to Shoto’s Half-Cold Half-Hot Quirk. Even worse, Froppy becomes steadily less effective in colder temperatures.

6 Stronger: Creation Offers Yaoyorozu The Ability To Build Instead Of Destroy

Yaoyorozu is so hindered by her insecurities throughout the first few seasons of My Hero Academia that anime fans have only recently begun to see the true power of her Creation Quirk. The ability to create anything that she thinks of is an incredibly powerful tool and will eventually far outpace Shoto’s ability to create both ice and fire.

The only weakness of the Creation Quirk is in the time and energy it demands. Still, if Yaoyorozu is given the time to prepare, she could absolutely devise a path that allows her to take down Shoto in a one-on-one battle of will.

5 Weaker: Dabi’s Cremation Quirk May Burn Hotter Than Shoto’s, But Half-Cold Half-Hot Is Much More Versatile

The manga has revealed some pretty shocking details regarding Dabi and his Cremation Quirk. The first of these details is the fact that Dabi’s flames are much hotter than both Shoto’s and Endeavor’s. The second has to do with Dabi’s stamina: since his flames are so hot, he can barely withstand the strength of his own Quirk.

Shoto, on the other hand, has much weaker flames, but is able to withstand the heat for a long period of time thanks to his cold side. Furthermore, if Endeavor’s assessment of Shoto can be trusted, the young hero will one day learn the power of flight like his father, which Dabi has yet to manage on his own.

4 Stronger: Erasure Completely Nullifies Even The Most Powerful Quirks

Erasure is the perfect Quirk for a teacher at U.A. High, but does it actually stand up on the battlefield? The answer to this question is absolutely yes.

Eraser Head’s ability to erase Quirks by making eye contact with a target is one of the most powerful Quirks in all of My Hero Academia. In order to overpower Shoto, Eraser Head simply needs to turn his gaze onto the young hero before defeating him in a close-quarters battle.

3 Weaker: Bakugo Makes Explosion Look Impressive, But The Potential Behind Half-Cold Half-Hot Is Nearly Limitless

Bakugo does an incredible job of making Explosion look like an overpowered Quirk, but when compared to the ability to control both ice and fire, the sweaty explosion god falls a bit short.

The speed that Bakugo demonstrates may be unmatched, but the versatility of Half-Cold Half-Hot really lets Shoto shine. In a battle of speed and strength, Bakugo’s Quirk may always outpace Shoto’s. Still, the ability to offer relief with Half-Cold is something Bakugo is unable to do with his hyper-aggressive Quirk.

2 Stronger: Decay’s Debilitating Effects Can Stop Half-Cold Half-Hot At Its Source

Anime My Hero Academia Tomura Shigaraki Decay

Overhaul briefly stole the spotlight from Tomura Shigaraki‘s Decay Quirk, but if fans connect the dots between the destruction of Deika City and Tomura’s Quirk, then it’s readily apparent that Decay has the potential to tear down more than just the objects Shigaraki touches.

If Tomura’s ability is able to transfer deterioration from one object to the next, then Shoto would have a very hard time defeating him with Half-Cold Half-Hot. Perhaps a more evolved version of Shoto’s Quirk could take down the leader of the League of Villains, but until then, Tomura’s Decay stands above Half-Cold Half-Hot.

1 Ingenium May Have More Drive Than Shoto, But He Lacks The Firepower Behind Half-Cold Half-Hot

Ingenium is not the stereotypical speedster who relies on the manipulation of potential and kinetic energy to move quickly through space. The speed that carries Tenya Ida through the battlefield at breakneck speeds comes from the twin engines that sit inside his calves.

The ability to generate energy from the base of each leg offers Ida incredible speed and strength, but he still has no answer for Shoto’s flames. The explosive power of Shoto’s Half-Hot would threaten Ingenium regardless of the speed he is able to move at. As long as Shoto is willing to rely on his fiery side, Ida wouldn’t stand a chance.
